eSports: #PlayApartTogether Raises S$4,200 For Charity, With More To Come This Weekend
Over the weekend, esports event #PlayApartTogether in Singapore (#PATSG) raised over $4,200 for beneficiaries; Home Nursing Foundation, HOME and Community Chest; with the net proceeds going to the more vulnerable sections of the community in Singapore. In addition to the funds raised, the event also saw a total of 17,000 viewers over the span of two days. The event on Saturday kicked off with a streamer showcase of the recently launched co-op game, Moving Out. The game, which requires strong teamwork and coordination, was played by streamers Reira, Abstract and Alyse who displayed near-perfect teamwork.
Viewers were then treated to exciting Mobile Legends matches between professional esports teams EVOS and Divinity as they went head-to-head in a series of specially formatted Mobile Legends games. In the first round, all players had to choose a character that was of a tank class whilst in the second, they had to pick characters in the marksman class. Despite a shaky start in round one, EVOS emerged victorious with their resilience, however their success was short lived as Divinity dominated the second round with their wise choice of characters. Both teams put up a tough fight and showcased their flexibility and versatility in the game, resulting in a tie after the two rounds.
Also taking to the stage were influencers Danial Ron, Julian Tay, RunawayKim and Blysk who formed a team and impressed with their teamwork and gaming skills in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Warzone. The team played a total of three rounds and despite coming from different gaming backgrounds, showed strong chemistry as they ranked amongst the best in their final round.
The highlight of the weekend was a FIFA 20 match between Singapore’s Young Lions football team and esports team Team Flash. Representing the Young Lions were Ilhan Fandi and Abdul Rasaq while representing Team Flash were Amraan and Buzzinho. The players went through three rounds of competition with the first two being deciding rounds on who would represent each team for the final match. In the end, it was Young Lion’s midfielder Abdul Rasaq and Team Flash’s Buzzinho who ended up going head to head on the virtual pitch. After a final round of intense football action, it was Team Flash’s Buzzinho who ultimately emerged victorious with a score of 4-3. The nail-biting match between the two teams blurred the lines of a physical football match and esports and was definitely enjoyed by both football fans and gaming enthusiasts alike.
Other activities that went down over the weekend included showcases of popular games such as Animal Crossing featuring cosplayer and streamer Kiyo, Just Dance 2020 featuring cosplayer and streamer LuckyElie, Beat Saber featuring streamers Cherzinga and Ashleyritawong and Jackbox Party 6 featuring a mashup of Alyse, Reira, Vampyrette, 0Eris0 and Abstract and an esports showcase of Call Of Duty Mobile featuring Team RIOT vs VVV Fuego from the Philippines.
Coming up this week, viewers can look forward to more exciting programmes lined up such as a speedrunning showcase from the Lion Speedrunners Assembly, Mobile Legends action from local streamers Sky Wee and Fenrir as well as professional esports teams, Impunity and EVOS. Also, there will be more FIFA 20 action with the Young Lions and Team Flash. Not forgetting more party games, alongside Rainbow Six Siege and Call of Duty: Mobile features from streamers and esports teams alike.
