Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and Post-Museum have partnered up to bring awareness to the growing issue of fashion waste with the third edition of the Renew Earth Sweat Shop. This collaboration presents an opportunity for future professionals to explore and capitalise on innovative solutions in Singapore’s green economy.
Students from NAFA will take centre stage in a seven-week programme where they will research, design and present sustainable solutions for the fashion industry. This will culminate in a public showcase at library@harbourfront from 20 July (Wednesday) to 8 August (Monday) 2022.
The showcase will address the impact of fashion waste through a digital presentation, alongside a catalogue of sustainable fashion and product designs. Additionally, NAFA students will lead interactive upcycling workshops to engage the community by drawing together fashion, art, and environmental sustainability from 22 July (Friday) to 24 July (Sunday). Utilising fashion waste such as discarded clothing and fabric scraps, participants will be guided by the students to craft wearable accessories and decorative art.
This collaboration is the second time NAFA and Post-Museum worked together to raise awareness on global issues within the fashion industry that impacts our future, while inspiring youths to be part of the solution. Renew Earth Sweat Shop will offer a wide-angle view of the fashion industry, from production, manufacture, marketing and retail – allowing students to not only understand the system better; but also, to take a proactive role to change it.
The Renew Earth Sweat Shop public showcase at library@harbourfront will run from 20th July (Wednesday) to 8th August (Monday) 2022. Join the upcycling workshops from 22nd to 24th July 2022 at library@harbourfront by registering here
