These days, it’s really hard to find good Pan Mee. The last place you’d expect to find it is in a shopping mall, considering how ubiquitous they are. But over in a corner at City Square Mall there’s a gem waiting to be uncovered, and its name is Face to Face Noodle House.
Hailing from Malaysia, Face to Face specialises in Traditional Sarawak Noodles. Apart from being served with tasty char siew, crispy wanton and some really great minced pork, what’s so great about the noodles is that the noodles themselves are made fresh each day in-house, which makes them springy and full of flavour. If you visit, this is the dish you have to try.
If you’re looking for something a little more exciting though, Face to Face is also offering their Hot and Spicy Pan Mee. Using the same handmade noodles as the Sarawak variety, the Hot and Spicy Pan Mee is similarly served with yummy minced pork, but also comes with crunchy anchovies and a perfectly cooked onsen egg right in the middle (tip: break it and mix it right in!) As for the spice, that comes from their house specialty dry chili, which packs a real punch for those who aren’t expecting it. In all honesty, it looks innocent enough, and doesn’t look like a lot when it’s served, but you’ve been warned.
Previously, they’ve only offered a standard level of spiciness, but right now, Face to Face is also doing a special competition. If you think you can take the heat, then this should be right up your alley. From August 12-30 September, Face to Face will be offering their Hot and Spicy Pan Mee in increasing levels of spiciness, from the usual Level 1, all the way to Level 4. We decided to take on the challenge, and believe me, Level 4 left my mouth on fire for a good while. But guess what? We still finished it, because the spice only added to the great taste, not to mention the lack of a time limit allows you all the time in the world to enjoy your noodles (and counter the spice with a much needed drink).
What’s more, during this period, for every Hot and Spicy Pan Mee ordered, you’ll also be entered into a draw to win a 4D3N trip to South Korea, where the spicier your order, the more entries you’ll have!
Face to Face may still be new to the food scene here, but they’ve got a good recipe and are definitely worth a trip down to give them a try. As for us? They’ve earned themselves a new fan.
