“Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes/how do you measure a year in the life?”

Pangdemonium ends off their 2016 season of love with none other than the musical origin of its theme – Jonathan Larson’s 1996 musical Rent!

Last staged in Singapore by the Singapore Repertory Theatre back in 2001, Rent gives Puccini’s opera La Boheme an update to its setting, surrounding a group of twenty-something New Yorkers navigating a world ravaged by AIDs in the East Village.  Featuring timeless musical classics such as ‘La Vie Boheme’ and ‘Take Me or Leave Me’, this hugely successful musical won countless Tony Awards in 1996, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.

The original cast included Broadway stalwarts and superstars such as Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel. But no fear – Pangdemonium’s cast may have big shoes to fill, but will feature some of the most talented performers too, such as 2015 Life! Theatre Award winner Mina Kaye, as well as Singapore Idol finalist and 98.7 DJ Tabitha Nauser.

Rent is sure to be a hit with its catchy tunes and gripping storyline, and Pangdemonium has chosen one of the absolute best musicals to end off 2016 with. You’ll be kicking yourself if you miss this production, so be sure to catch it this October!

Rent plays at the Drama Centre 7-23 October, tickets available from SISTIC
