The annual W!ld Rice pantomime is back! W!ld Rice is bringing back their hit musical and last year’s Life! Theatre Award Production of the Year Monkey Goes West this Christmas season, a perfect send off to the year of the Monkey!

Monkey Goes West riffs on the Chinese fantasy classic Journey to the West, where orphan Ah Tang embarks on an epic quest in a strange land, joined by a motley crew consisting Wukong, the mischievous and cheeky Monkey King; Pigsy, the brave and hungry warrior; and Sandy, a stubborn but loyal river ogre. Together, they’ll journey across the west on a once-in-a-lifetime madcap adventure, encountering foes such as the fire-breathing Red Boy and the shape-shifting King Bull. As their friendship and powers are put to the test, will Ah Tang be able to find a place he can call home, truly?

These crazy characters will be played by some of the very best in Singapore’s theatre scene today, with the likes of Siti Khalijah, Frances Lee, Joshua Lim, Darius Tan, Sugie Phua, Kimberly Chan and Chua En Lai taking to the stage to deliver the laughs and sing their hearts out.

Monkey Goes West was written by award-winning playwright Alfian Sa’at (Hotel) with music by acclaimed composer Elaine Chan, and will be directed by Broadway Beng Sebastian Tan. Look out for the kids who will also be performing on stage, but don’t let their cute looks fool you – they’re students of Martial House, Singapore’s leading wushu academy! Hiyah! They will be joined by children from W!ld Rice’s First Stage Programme, as they make their theatrical debuts.

We’ve always enjoyed attending the annual pantomime, because they always go beyond just family-friendly entertainment; they’re also blockbuster nights out of quality theatre. Get your tickets to ensure a wild time for the entire household!

Monkey Goes West plays from 18 November to 17 December at the Drama Centre Theatre. Tickets available from SISTIC.
