Sister Act

You gotta have faith, but you’re also gonna have fun at BASE Entertainment’s Sister Act.

In lieu of the upcoming production of hit musical Sister Act at Mastercard Theatres, we went down to get a preview of what we had in store for us!

Adapted from the hit 90s film of the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act is a madcap comedy adventure following the exploits of one sassy disco diva as she goes into undercover protective custody after being a witness to a murder…at a conservative convent! Will this nun-on-the-run be suppressed by the soporific sisters? Or will she be able to teach them about the power of letting your voice soar high?

Sister Act

Sister Act consists an all star 52-member production team, with top lighting designer Natasha Katz and sound designer Peter McBoyle from the UK to make sure the stage shines with holy light and rings with the voice of the gods. Directed by experienced director Jerry Zaks from New York, with more than 35 directorial credits to his name from La Cage aux Folles to The Addams Family, and choreography by Anthony Van Laast (Mama Mia, Jesus Christ Superstar), the stage is sure to sizzle with energetic dance moves and the Lord himself would stop to check out all the action. As for the show’s scenic designer and costumes, the team’s gotten the original Broadway/West End designers to return, with Klara Zieglerova and Lez Brotherston filling the roles once again.

Sister Act

Of course, a show is nothing without its cast, and in the lead role of Deloris Van Cartier is Dene Hill, an award winning international opera singer who’s been playing the role on the entire Asian leg of the Sister Act tour. Having previously starred in productions of Porgie and Bess, La Boheme and Don Giovanni, this soulful songstress will bring the house down with her powerful God-given voice. Co-starring with her is Rebecca Mason-Wygal as Mother Superior. Acting as Deloris’ foil, Mason-Wygal has previously toured the USA in Mamma Mia!

Other cast members include South Korean Sophie Kim as Mary Robert, Will T. Travis as Eddie Souther, Brandon Godfrey as Curtis Jackson and Jared Bedgood as TJ.

Sister Act

With an all star cast and creative team behind this production of Sister Act, you’ll be confessing your regrets on Sunday if you miss this opportunity. Throw off your inhibitions, let your soul shout it out loud and have fiery faith when you come for BASE Entertainment’s Sister Act this May.

Sister Act plays at Mastercard Theatres from 9-21 May 2017. Tickets available from SISTIC and MBS
