At a press conference held on 29th October, Monday, Multi-Grammy Award winning artist Jason Mraz has officially announced his plans for a 6-city tour of Asia commencing in May 2019! With the show in Singapore on the 11th of May 2019 held at The Star Theatre!
Fresh from his recent show at Singapore’s National Stadium last weekend as part of the WTA Finals, Mraz spoke with excitement at kicking off his 2019 Asian tour in Manila, Philippines on 8th May before travelling through Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok, to end off his tour at Taiwan’s Taipei Arena on 25th May.
Mraz is perhaps one of our defining artists who came into the public eye as we were growing up, scoring record-breaking singles such as “I’m Yours” and “I Won’t Give Up”, defining the love songs of a generation and garnering him fans from across the globe. It’s honestly not often these days to find artists as wholesome and positive as Mraz, with his ever optimistic folk-pop sound and playing to sold-out stadiums over the years around the world.
Says Mraz on his choice to come back to Asia again and again: “Asia always shows me a lot of gratitude and appreciation for understanding just how far I’ve travelled to be here. There’s a connectivity between us – even if we live on different parts of the world, all of us are able to connect through music, and for me, that’s something that’s really beautiful.”
This announcement comes hot on the heels of Mraz’s latest album, his sixth, titled Know released on 10th August. This is now his fifth consecutive studio album to debut in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, with its first single ‘Have it All’ peaking at #1 on iTunes in various territories including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Says Mraz on the inspiration behind it: “I was performing in the musical Waitress alongside Sara Bareilles, and I was away from my family, my wife for a good four months. Over that period, I received so many love notes, and this album was born out of those notes and conversations with my loved ones over that time.”
Commenting how how his music has evolved over the years, Mraz re-emphasised the importance of opening himself to all kinds of genres and evolving every step of the way. Mraz also mentioned how sometimes because of being signed to a label or company, there’s a certain branding artists are contractually obliged to stick to, and for every 10 songs you hear, there’s 100 more you don’t that’s sitting unreleased in his back catalog.
Says Mraz: “I’ve been working on incorporating my synthesiser into some of my songs – maybe after I’m done with this contract, you’ll finally get to hear these records in some form!”
Jason Mraz returns to Singapore on 11th May 2019 at the Star Theatre. Tickets will be on sale on 9th November 2018 (Friday), 10 am via www.apactix.com. For more tour details, log on to www.jasonmraz.com/events
