Singapore FinTech Festival 2018 Opens with a Bang
The third edition of the Singapore Fintech Festival kicked off on Monday – the five day festival, dubbed the world’s largest and most impactful platform of the global FinTech community, invited guests to come together and connect, collaborate and co-create.
Microsoft Software Engineer Saqib Shaikh opened the festival with a rousing speech on how technology can be harnessed to improve lives and act as ‘the great equaliser’. Ravi Menon, Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, then followed up about the importance of developing our local FinTech ecosystem, with an emphasis on People, Identity, Payments, Data Governance, Applied Research and Platforms for Innovation.
At the Google Cloud Stage, Global FinTech Hackcelerator Demo Day saw some exciting pitches, debates and insights shared, with topics that covered ASEAN FinTech opportunities, the future of money, market infrastructure and more. Some exciting panels included discussions on how different payments of the future were set to look with the rise of crypto-currencies and the challenges of maintaining financial stability, as well as a panel that discussed the potential held within millennials and SMEs, the future of our generation, to bring economic growth to the next level.
Over the remainder of the festival, expect highlights such as over 50 more discussions, 450 exhibitors with their innovative solutions, FinTech Awards, Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Finance Summit, Innovation Lab Crawl and more. Says Mr Sopnendu Mohanty, Chief FinTech Officer, MAS: “The Singapore FinTech Festival is now a global knowledge platform extending beyond FinTech to include topics such as LP investing, venture capital and capital raising strategies. This year, it has expanded to attract a more diverse crowd of international regulators, policy makers, industry leaders and academics from FinTech and beyond. Going forward, the Festival will continue to champion financial inclusion through innovation and digital transformation to achieve a more global and all-embracing FinTech ecosystem.”
