To mark its 50th anniversary, the Music & Drama Company (MDC) pays tribute to its roots and thanks National Servicemen through a three-day song and dance extravaganza titled “Music & Memories” at the Toa Payoh HDB Hub Atrium.
MDC was established in 1973 by then-Defence Minister Dr. Goh Keng Swee to boost the morale of our soldiers in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) through live entertainment. MDC has come a long way from performing on makeshift stages formed by three-tonners, to becoming a highly professional company capable of staging multimedia song and dance performances, musicals, and many more.

At this special heartland show, National Servicemen, their families and the public will enjoy renditions of popular hits from way back to present day, that will bring back fond memories and make new ones. MDC artistes will also perform “Warriors”, an original track from the MDC50 anniversary album. This pop-rock anthem which was released in May 2023, was written as a tribute to National Servicemen and has been performed at the Basic Military Training Centre (BMTC) Recruits’ Night and Graduation Parades.
Notable MDC alumni, namely singer Sebastian Tan (also known as Broadway Beng) and dancers Moe Kasim, Jackie Pereira and Farhan Hassan will grace the stage and entertain the crowds together with current MDC singers RINES, Dominic Chin, Izzathy, and many more. Apart from the stage performances, the audience will participate in exciting stage games via the CAMOKAKIS app, alongside a special exhibition showcasing the history and transformation of MDC over the past 50 years. One of MDC’s latest artistes – Bailey, a member of MDC’s avatar girl group SO*DA, will make a guest appearance and engage visitors there.

MDC’s kicked off its anniversary series with its first anchor performance at the brand new SAFRA Choa Chu Kang in June this year and will close with a year-end concert at Victoria Theatre. The public can also enjoy MDC’s upcoming performance on 13 October 2023 at Popaholic, part of Esplanade’s Free Programme Series.
