This May, take a wild ride to paradise with Singapore Theatre Company (STC) and Indian Ink’s sensational new play – Paradise or the Impermanence of Ice Cream, about life’s impermanence—where love, ice cream, and the mysteries of death intertwine in unexpected ways.
Kutisar is dead, and lost between paradise and hell. On an existential post-mortem journey to correct mistakes of his past, Kutisar joins the feisty Meera on a madcap quest to save the critically endangered vultures that play a vital role in Parsi sky burials. Weaving the afterlife and a dash of Bollywood disco into the real-life mystery of India’s vanishing vultures, Paradise or the Impermanence of Ice Cream is infused with serious laughter and exquisite puppetry that will blow your mind and melt your heart.
This production marks Indian Ink’s fourth co-presentation with STC. Jacob Rajan, known for his captivating performances in The Guru of Chai and Krishnan’s Dairy, returns to the STC stage after successful runs in 2011 and 2012. Speaking on Rajan’s artistry, Gaurav Kripalani remarks “I would rate Jacob Rajan as one of the best stage actors in the world. I don’t make statements like that lightly. That would be why this is our fourth collaboration with him, and why it was a no-brainer to feature Paradise or the Impermanence of Ice Cream in our Triple-Bill of one-person shows. It is one of the most heart-warming experiences you will experience in a theatre”.
Jacob Rajan expresses his anticipation for the upcoming production “I can’t wait to bring Paradise or the Impermanence of Ice Cream to Singapore at STC. I still remember the sold out buzz we had for The Guru of Chai last time so I’m looking forward to giving audiences another life affirming blast from the Indian Ink canon. I’m desperate to get back to my favourite hawker stalls so my advice to you is to book early in the season while I can still fit my costume!”
Paradise, or the Impermanence of Ice Cream runs from 16th to 26th May 2024 at the KC Arts Centre. Tickets available here
