Asylum Theatre will proudly be staging Ira Levin’s Deathtrap for the very first time in Singapore this October!
Levin is best known for penning contemporary classics such as Rosemary’s Baby and The Stepford Wives. While Deathtrap was his sole play, it was a success, receiving a Tony Award nomination for Best Play in 1978 and ending up as the longest running thriller-comedy on Broadway.
The play utilises a play within a play format, following Broadway playwright Sidney Bruhl attempting to overcome a series of failed plays. His fortunes seem to turn around when he receives a script from a student (titled Deathtrap). Bruhl then attempts to devise the play for Broadway alongside his wife and the student. Complicating matters are the presence of the couple’s psychic neighbor and Sidney’s lawyer, and as the play progresses, more twists and turns occur, eventually leading to the shocking conclusion.
This staging of Deathtrap will be directed by award-winning playwright and director Dean Lundquist, and promises to spellbind audiences from start to end. We’re very excited for the premiere, and we’re sure that it’ll be a production that’ll stay in your head for days to come.
Deathtrap plays at the Drama Centre Black Box from 12-30 October. Tickets available from SISTIC
