Preview: Woyzeck at the Old Vic
Nabbing his claim to fame in the new Star Wars trilogy, John Boyega takes to the stage in the Old Vic’s new production of Woyzeck (pronounced voy-tzeck) in the title role.
Set in 1980s Berlin as the Cold War rages on and the world sits at a crossroads between Capitalism and Communism, a young soldier and his lover sit on the very borders of East and West Berlin, trying to escape crushing poverty and build a better future for their child. But the cost of a better life might just prove a little too much in this searing tale of the people left behind by society.
Writing this new version is multi-award winning plawright Jack Thorne (Let The Right One In, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) as he breathes new life into Georg Buchner’s unfinished 1837 script. Woyzeck will be directed by Joe Murphy, and in addition to John Boyega, feature quality actors such as Sarah Greene and Stefan Rhodri in the cast.
Woyzeck plays at the Old Vic, London till 24 June. Tickets available here
