Get Your Grape On at London Wine Week 2017

No need to whine this summer as all your wine needs are met by Drink Up London’s spectacular week long wine festival.

We promised ourselves we’d have a Dry January this year, but this being London, everything went straight out the window the moment 2017 rolled around. Summer looks no less sober with Drink Up London’s fourth edition of the annual London Wine Week.

Taking place from 5th to 11th June, this year’s edition promises to be even bigger and more extravagant than last year’s, with over 125 of the city’s best wine bars and restaurants participating. All you have to do is grab yourself a £10 Festival Pass entitling festival goers to £5 wine flights or bespoke Sip & Snack food pairings in all partner venues, and a cornucopia of al fresco pop-up wine bars at the London Wine Week Hub in Devonshire Square.

Besides endless glasses of wine, London Wine Week will also feature a full programme of activities and events all across London, from fancy wine tastings, lavish dinners, educational masterclasses and parties to fritter away these warm summer nights.

Check out some of the highlights we’re absolutely looking forward to checking out when the festival rolls around next week!

London Wine Week Hub at Devonshire Square

Devonshire Square returns as the headquarters for this year’s Wine Week. Right in the heart of the city, this al fresco site is where festival goers can collect and buy the festival passes and with a whole host of pop-ups ready to fulfill your wine desires.

Quality sparkling wine producer Freixnet will be present with their stylish Vintage Wine Van to serve up their all new premium Prosecco alongside their usual fare. Wines of Argentina will be bringing in a colourful shipping container full of Latin America’s best wines, which you can sip while listening to live Latin music and admiring the original antiques and art from some of the foremost Argentinian artists. Also present will be Vins de Provence and Wines of Portugal to showcase an exciting range of the best wines their respective regions have to offer.

Time: Mon – Fri, 5pm – 10pm, Sat 12-10pm
Location: Devonshire Square, London, EC2M 4YE

DrinkUp: The Wine Edit

Where in London would you transform into a temporary vineyard featuring extravagant and delectable regional wines? Only the hippest parts of East London of course. The Oval’s warehouse space at Bethnal Green will be changed into a sun-dappled vineyard for all of three days to present wines from the warmer climates of Europe.

A huge wine-pop up in itself, The Wine Edit will feature wines from The Loire Valley, Rioja’s lesser known rivals from Ribera del Duero specializing in juicy reds, Jerez’s dry finos and nutty olorosos and fruity flavours from the iconic Tawny Port wine. A special vermouth terrace by Regal Rouge will also be set up outside, with plenty of sun-downer aperitif cocktails at the ready while a DJ plays some funk and disco tunes. The Modern Pantry will be preparing food to accompany the wine and keep that party playing all night long.

Price: Tickets £15 // Time: Thurs – Fri, 6pm – 11pm | Sat, 12pm – 5pm & 6pm – 11pm Location: Oval Space, 29-32 The Oval, London, E2 9DT

The Wine Tours

All over London, wine bars and various venues will be transformed into avenues for wine tasting and a journey for the senses. With over 125 participants offering £5 wine flights or ‘Sip & Snack’ specials, the city is your oyster (and you should totally grab some oysters while you’re at it).

Each wine flight features 3 wines chosen by each venue’s sommeliers that complement each other to show off a certain grape, region or producer. The Sip & Snack specials will be a food and wine pairing designed by the venue from the traditional cheese and wine to quirkier creations, such as Henschke’s white wine paired with Belly Ribs at Hawksmoor Seven Dials.

Sip & Snack offers from £5 – £25 to pass holders
Time: All week, venue dependent
Location: Various, visit their DrinkUp for full details

Loire Valley Brunch at Sager + Wilde

Sager + Wilde provides the perfect way to end off your London Wine Week odyssey, with a spectacular Sunday Brunch to end all Sunday brunches. Loire wine specialist Lindsay Oram will be your host as the brunch starts with a glass of a sparkling Loire classic, followed by a special wine and food pairing featuring Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil, Savennières, Saumur Champigny, Rosé d’Anjou and Vouvray. Sure sounds like our slice of paradise for a summertime Sunday afternoon!
