The forest is dark and cold as night
But what do we see there in the clearing’s light?
A house made of sweets, oh what a delight!
How could a hungry child resist such a sight?
But not all that’s sweet is cause for joy,
For she who lives within has planned this ploy.
Hansel and Gretel remains one of the brothers Grimms’ best loved fairytales. One of the most famous stage adaptations remains Engelbert Humperdinck’s 1893 opera, which features lush, romantic melodies and German folk songs and remains as popular today as it did in its premiere.
In this family-friendly adventure, the Orchestra of the Music Makers is joined by an international and local cast of singers for this semi-staged concert performance, the Volare Treble Voices by Darius Lim. This production will be directed by Life! Theatre Award-winning artist Edith Podesta and conducted by Chan Tze Law of the Yong Siew Toh Music Conservatory.
This June, enter the forest for an unforgettable musical performance at the Esplanade.
