The creators of the Grammy-nominated sell-out UK show INALA are back with a new show! Base Entertainment Asia and Sisters Grimm present the Asian premiere of Voices of the Amazon this July – a passionate, magical dance musical exploring the impact of deforestation and the importance of sustainability.
Set within the Brazilian rainforest, Voices of the Amazon follows Beleza, a water spirit,
who seeks to to cure her dying sister. Her journey takes her deep into the Brazilian rainforest, and her heart is broken when she discovers the forest is no longer as abundant in plants and natural medicines.
Directed by Pietra Mello-Pittman, Voices of the Amazon features a fusion of ballet, contemporary dance and Brazilian capoeira, choreographed by Helen Pickett. These choreographies will be set to a musical score composed by Ella Spira containing sounds recorded from the Amazon rainforest, alongside music and songs performed live in English and Portuguese. Beloved Oscar-winning theatre, film and television actor Jeremy Irons will also be lending his voice to Voices of the Amazon in a pre-recorded narration.
Fun for all the family, Voices of the Amazon embraces the spirit of Brazil and will certainly be an eye-opening, exhilarating performance to catch. This July, step into the rainforest, the Amazon is calling.
