Preview: Clapham Fringe 2018
LONDON – Returning for its fourth edition, the Clapham Fringe returns to The Bread & Roses Theatre from 27th September to 14th October 2018. With 23 different productions and 48 performances over the three weeks, audiences can expect a range of genres and mediums from theatre to comedy, storytelling and cabaret.
As the Fringe continues to grow and bring more exciting lineups of performances to the London’s increasingly vibrant South West, the 50-seater Bread & Roses Theatre makes for a great central venue for the performances. The theatre, located upstairs at the Bread & Roses Pub in Clapham, is a champion for equality, diversity and artistic quality, whilst also providing theatre-makers with a space to develop and present their work.
The festival will be managed by Bread & Roses Theatre newly appointed Artistic Director Velenzia Spearpoint. Highlights this year include presentations from the Clapham Comedy Club, which will feature Spanish comedian Sonia Aste and award-nominated African comedian Njambi McGrath. Other features from the Comedy Club include a set from Tony Law, and a mega line-up of comedians including Mark Dolan, Abi Roberts, Steve Whiteley AKA Wisebowm, Ben Clover & MC Sion James.
On the theatre front, expect plenty of weird and wonderful offerings, from gritty council flat drama to awkward comedy about sharing groups. Besides completely original works, multiple companies will also be offering their take on classic works, from Sherlock Holmes accidentally murdering his client to a feminist take on Kafka’s Metamorphosis. Even burlesque isn’t left out of the mix, while a daring new work will deconstruct Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People.
Expect the unexpected, along with plenty of fun, laughs, mayhem and more at the 2018 Clapham Fringe, bringing the most exciting of new writing and new, bite-sized theatre and performances to invigorate South West London for three weeks.
