Ding Yi Music Company held their third biennial Fundraising Gala Dinner & Concert on Wednesday, 13th March 2019 at the Tanah Merah Country Club. Themed ‘Rhapsody of Romance, the gala successfully raised over $560,000 in support of Ding Yi’s efforts to promote Chinese chamber music as a music genre in Singapore, the highest amount since their first fundraiser held in 2015.
Attended by guest-of-honour and Minister for Community, Culture and Youth Grace Fu, the gala dinner presented performances from Peking opera actress Huang Ping and award-winning flautist Rit Xu, as well as a performance from veteran pianist Elaine Wu and Ding Yi’s principal guest conductor, Mr Quek Ling Kiong with 18 musicians, garnering a standing ovation. The fundraising efforts were led by Mrs Goh Chok Tong, chairperson of the fundraising committee and Patron of Ding Yi, who even unveiled her hidden vocal talents during the night.
Says Ding Yi Board Chairman Mr Patrick Goh: “We have been fortunate to receive the continuous support from our government, corporate sponsors and individual donors. As an arts company, Ding Yi relies heavily on their generosity, in order to grow not just as individual musicians, but as an ensemble too! With the donations, Ding Yi will be able to support our musicians for the next two years and focus on developing a music uniquely for Singapore – the Ding Yi Chinese chamber music.”.
