This May, the BBC brings you adventure, home cooking and plenty of drama to keep you entertained throughout the entire month. Check out the list in full below:


Travel Man: 48 Hours In… (Series 4 & 5)

Travel Man is back! This season acclaimed director, author and BAFTA winning actor Richard Ayoade will continue his travelling adventures with famous friends. In each episode they jet off to an exciting location.

In series 4, he visits St Petersburg with Rob Beckett, Budapest with Aisling Bea, Tenerife with Lena Dunham and Miami with Rhod Gilbert.

In series 5, he visits Rome with Matt Lucas, Valencia with Sara Pascoe, Amsterdam with Joe Lycett and Stockholm with Sally Phillips.

The Wonderful World of Puppies (Series 3)

Get ready for an overdose of cuteness as this delightful series returns with a new cast of young canines that reveals life from a puppy perspective.

Thanks to pioneering camera technology the series reveals all the drama, fun and high jinks of these puppies’ lives as they discover the wonderful world around them and their place within it. Join them as they learn, love and grow.

Highlights include a Pomeranian at dog yoga class, Malinois pups who take to the skies for helicopter training and Viking Valhunds on a mission to save their blood line in Sweden. There’s also a Newfoundland pup whose inherited swimming skills are tested by his fear of water, and an array of happy pups holidaying in France, brunching with high society and diving into a puppy pool party.

Steve Backshall VS the Vertical Mile

Adventurer Steve Backshall takes on one of the most notorious and deadly mountain climbs in the world – the north face of the Eiger.

After months of gruelling physical and mental training, Steve and his elite climbing team arrive in Switzerland for their attempt to climb the mountain dubbed ‘the ogre’. But they quickly discover that the vertical mile of treacherous rock isn’t the only challenge that awaits them in the Alps. Faced with brittle ice-covered cliffs, blinding blizzards and deep biting cold, Steve finds himself pushed to the very edge of his ability. And as a monster storm front moves in, heartbreaking decisions must be made in a race against time to save the expedition.

Secret Cities (Series 1)

The fascinating stories behind the art that has shaped three dazzlingly beautiful cities.

Amsterdam, St Petersburg and Barcelona are visited by tourists in their droves who tread well-worn paths around great galleries, palaces and plazas. But in this series, art historian Janina Ramirez and art critic Alastair Sooke reveal the essence of each city in a fresh and fascinating way by going off the beaten track to visit their own selection of must-see sights.

In Amsterdam, they explore the contradictions at the heart of the city that fuelled masters like Rembrandt and Vermeer. In St Petersburg, they discover how art has been harnessed to enhance the power of leaders. And in Barcelona they reveal a city defined by the Catalan struggle for full independence.

The Supervet (Series 5)

Taking life-saving care to a whole new level, Fitzpatrick Referrals is the last-chance saloon for Britain’s most sick and injured pets.

With two hundred new cases every month, from rabbits with broken legs to dogs with cancer, Fitzpatrick Referrals is one of the biggest and best veterinary hospitals in the world. Every animal emergency has a deeply human subtext. Charismatic and witty surgeon Noel Fitzpatrick leads a team of 100 nurses, physiotherapists and hydro-therapists with patients.

The Supervet follows Noel and his team over several months. From puppies fighting for the lives to a 10-year-old Collie who need two total hip replacements, this series is full of the most unusual veterinary cases and plenty of joyful owners who’d been told to give up hope.

Extreme Everest with Ant Middleton

Nadiya’s Family Favourites

Nadiya Hussain returns to BBC Lifestyle with a brand new eight-part series Nadiya’s Family Favourites, with a wealth of dishes for families and friends to fit in with modern life.

In this new series, Nadiya shows that being a good cook isn’t just about mastering technique; the real secret is knowing just what to muster up for each occasion and creating dishes that will put smiles on everyone’s faces – including the cook’s.

Whether preparing food on a busy school night, or catering for a lazy social Sunday, the series will open the lid on the kinds of food Nadiya prepares for her family and friends, demonstrating how to create the perfect dishes to compliment these shared experiences.

Award-winning food writer, TV presenter and YouTube extraordinaire Donal Skehan returns to the screens with quick and easy recipes, and timesaving tips and tricks, for some delicious meals made in just minutes.

Since the last series (Donal’s Asian Baking Adventure), Donal’s life has changed greatly. Not only has he planted his roots in California, he has also become a father for the first time to baby Noah. This new adventure has taught Donal the importance of quick and tasty meals on the go, and he wants to share this knowledge with his viewers.

Nigel Slater’s Middle East

Food writer Nigel Slater embarks upon a Middle Eastern culinary adventure to explore some of the oldest and grandest cuisines in the world. Some of these foods have spread around the world but Nigel learns what ordinary people cook and eat. From Iran to the Black Sea, he makes numerous stops in the Middle East sampling home-cooked dishes of local families, and discovers why, despite the boom in fast food outlets, these traditional dishes are still popular.

Mrs Wilson

Ruth Wilson stars as her own grandmother in BBC First drama Mrs Wilson, a tale of family secrets and espionage. Based on real-life events, the drama follows Ruth Wilson’s grandmother, Alison, who believes she is happily married to acclaimed author and former spy Alexander ‘Alec’ Wilson until he dies unexpectedly in 1963. Then another Mrs Wilson turns up on Alison’s doorstep, claiming to have also been married to Alec.

After the sudden death of novelist and ex-Secret Intelligence Service man Alexander Wilson, his wife Alison is forced to investigate when mysteries from her husband’s past come knocking.

Victoria (Series 3)

The third series of this gripping period drama will start in 1848 and will see Victoria under pressure from the government to leave London for her own safety, amid fears of revolution and unrest in London. But she is also facing pressure within the royal marriage: approaching their 30s with six children, Victoria and Albert see tensions ebb and flow in their marriage.

Little Britain (Series 3)

Have you ever thought about visiting Britain?

Well, let’s hope this lot don’t put you off! Series Three of the ultimate catchphrase comedy sees the welcome return of some favourite characters including Lou and Andy, Marjorie and the Fat Fighters club, Michael and Sebastian, and teenage delinquent Vicky Pollard. Some very interesting new faces are also introduced, such as Dudley, who buys a mail order bride from Thailand. Meanwhile pampered, obese freeloader Bubbles meets her match in a new character called Desiree…

Louis Theroux: Dark States – Murder in Milwaukee

Louis arrives in Milwaukee at a time of heightened tension between the police and the African American community.

With spiralling gun crime and homicide rates, this Midwestern city encapsulates America’s complex and troubled relationship with guns – as well as the increasing disharmony between African American communities and the police. He follows the Homicide division as they investigate one of the city’s many killings and meets families and local social activists who have lost loved ones to these nightly acts of violence. Hearing from both sides of the debate, Louis uncovers hope in a desperate city.
