The Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir (SSCC) and Singapore Symphony Chorus (SSC) have redesigned three annual events to take place online, in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir has adapted its annual The SSCC Experience to create a two-day online experience taking place during the school holidays, on Monday 7th & Tuesday 8th September. Participants will get a chance to experience a day in the life of an SSCC singer and take part in a virtual choir performance. The Experience will be in two half-day workshops, led by Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir conductors. All children – with or without musical knowledge – are welcome. The SSCC Experience is recommended for children with treble voices, aged 8 (born in 2012) to 12.
Singapore Symphony Chorus’s The SSC Affair will also now take place via Zoom, spread across three Friday evenings – 11th, 18th & 25th September. The online SSC Affair will offer a unique insight into what it’s like being a Singapore Symphony Chorus member.
Over the three weeks, participants will be guided by Choral Director Eudenice Palaruan and members of the SSC in workshops involving classical choral training, performance tips and vocal techniques as well as an opportunity to learn choral classics. Participants will also have the chance to sing a newly arranged work, Dona Nobis Pacem, as a virtual choir. For choristers interested in exploring their solo voice there will also be the opportunity to work one-on-one with voice clinicians. New for this year, participants will also have the option to enlist in Basic Musicianship lessons. The SSC Affair is recommended for choristers aged 28 to 65. Participants should have some (past or current) choral experience; an ability to read music is advantageous but not compulsory.
Auditions for the Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir have also been adapted and this year will take place in two parts: applicants are invited to submit an audition video before being allocated an e-audition timeslot on 11th October. The Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir offers training and performance opportunities to children by developing their vocal technique, music literacy and musicianship, with an aim to help fledgling singers achieve their fullest musical potential. Singing with the SSCC requires discipline and teamwork, which in turn fosters confidence, self-esteem, and helps develop important life skills. The SSCC also offers the extraordinary experience of performing monumental choral classics with the combined forces of the Singapore Symphony choruses and orchestra.
The SSCC Experience (Online) takes place on Zoom on 7th and 8th September 2020. The SSC Affair (Online) takes place on Zoom on 11th, 18th and 25th September 2020. SSSC Auditions take place on 11th October 2020. More information for all three events available on SSO’s website here
