Preview: SLEEP (THUYIL) by Singapore Indian Theatre & Film Explorers

Far too often as adults, we forgo too much of our sleep, leading to plenty of health issues that eat away at our body. It’s no surprise then, that there’s a need to introduce World Sleep Day, to celebrate the innocuous activity and act as a call to action on important sleep issues plaguing us all.

To commemorate the event, local company Singapore Indian Theatre & Film Explorers (SITFE) will be streaming their bilingual stage production SLEEP (THUYIL in Tamil). Anchored on 3 years of intense research and interviews with sleep doctors, patients and general public members, SLEEP is a performance based on true events of sleep related issues.

This is particularly relevant as Singapore has been declared the most sleep deprived country in the world. Though the country has grown exponentially over the five decades, the increasing amount of stress continues to grow, leading to low quality sleep and lack of sleep leading to health issues like sleep apnea, insomnia, anger and depression, making sleep deprivation an issue that must be addressed.

Take the opportunity to take a break, grab a nice pillow and educate yourself on the importance of a good night’s sleep, as SITFE presents SLEEP this March.

SLEEP streams online from 19th to 28th March 2021. Tickets available from SISTIC

For residents in the USA, you could win a ticket to SLEEP! Just be the first 20 participants to submit a poem, drawing, letter, story, photograph or other artwork about your relationship with sleep.
