By The Book: Epigram Coffee Bookshop opens at SAM @ Tanjong Distripark

While the Huggs-Epigram Bookshop at the URA building was shuttered during the pandemic, there’s a brand new avenue for purveyors of local writing to get their book and coffee fix – Epigram Coffee Bookshop at SAM @ Tanjong Distripark is now officially open.

Epigram Coffee Bookshop is a concept store from Epigram Bookshop and Balestier Market Collective (BMC). A collaborative effort to bring together coffee and books for an all-rounded experience.

The 20-seater space features 3.5m tall shelves housing a wide selection of books from our publishing arm, Epigram Books, as well as other publishers including Ethos Books, Math Paper Press, and World Scientific. Visitors to the coffee bookshop will also be able to enjoy coffee and food from BMC. Offerings include coffee beans roasted by Quarter Life Coffee Roasters and traditional kueh from Lina’s.

Epigram Coffee Bookshop will be open from Monday to Sundays, including public holidays, from 11am to 6.30pm. Epigram Bookshop will continue to use a cashless payment system for its book purchases. Accepted methods of payment include credit card, NETS, PayNow, among others.

“It has been a challenging few months since the closure of our bookshop at the URA centre but we are very glad to welcome everyone to our new home at SAM at Tanjong Distripark. We are excited for the possibilities ahead with both SAM and Balestier Market Collective,” says Edmund Wee, publisher of Epigram Books.

With its location at SAM, the Epigram Coffee Bookshop makes it an ideal place for visitors to the museum to pick up Singaporean literature and have a good cup of coffee after enjoying the exhibitions.

“Our tagline for the store remains the same—‘Hold Singapore in Your Hands’”, says Edmund. “We hope that everyone who comes by will enjoy our space and hold a piece of Singapore in their hands.”

In conjunction with the new opening, Epigram will be hosting their Book Talk series in person at the bookshop, where publishers, writers, illustrators, and friends of the industry chat about everything about print. In the first iteration, Edmund Wee, publisher of Epigram Books will satiate everyone’s burning questions on how to get published, taking place on Saturday, 28th May, from 5-6pm. Entry to the talks are free but registration is required here

The Epigram Coffee Bookshop @ Singapore Art Museum is located at 39 Keppel Road #01-02, Tanjong Pagar Distripark S089065. It will be open from Monday to Sundays, including public holidays, from 11am to 6.30pm.
