Preview: Dim Sum Dollies Present The History of Singapore – Sixty Sexy Years by Dream Academy

How can History be sexy? When it is according to the Dim Sum Dollies, of course. Following the success of their post-pandemic hit cabaret revue show “Still Steam” in 2022 after a seven year hiatus, the Dollies present a tantalizing taster menu of characters and sketches—ranging from beloved classic dishes to exciting new platters of wicked pleasures.

With this latest satirical spoof, the Dim Sum Dollies invites one and all to celebrate Singapore’s Diamond Anniversary. A little nostalgia and a whole lot of wicked fun. From independence to conscription to development with the pandemic and pandemonic political scandals thrown in. What doesn’t kill us makes for stronger if “skittish” comedy with a razor sharp bite.

Their last hysterical historical saw Singapore till the year 2014. Now, with 1 pandemic, 2 % GST hike, 3 Presidents, 4G transition and 5 guilty corruption pleas- the Dollies are picking up where local life left off and charging forward into our Diamond 60-year anniversary celebrations of the post ang moh, kicked out and gone solo Singapore.

And what’s more, they’re bringing sexy back. What’s sexier than a load of political scandals, a pair of political sandals and a familial political succession? Find out at the Capitol Theatre this December as the Dim Sum Dollies do what 2 maligned siblings could not – ‘bring the HOUSE down’.

As ‘Chief’ Dim Sum Dolly and Dream Academy artistic director Selena Tan puts it: “It’s hard to believe that I have been a Dolly since 2003, and while I want to go on prancing till I am old and grey, I am always grateful each time a new show hits the stage. It is always edifying to connect with my Dolly fans, old and new, and this time all the more so, as this could possibly be my last full scale Dim Sum Dollies production.”

Join Selena Tan (Crazy Rich Asians, Shotgun Wedding, Chang & Eng), Pam Oei (Faghag, Tartuffe, Hotel), and Jo Tan (Tiong Bahru Social Club, King, Tartuffe) for an evening of comedic cabaret that reflects on Singapore’s journey over six decades, featuring six sexy ‘low mai guys’. Along this musical adventure, their irreplaceable ‘chopstick’, Hossan Leong, will be joined by a live band, delivering outrageous costumes that seamlessly blend with multimedia visual effects, props, and dynamic lighting.

This may just be the last full-scale production of Dim Sum Dollies, so it’s a must-see event for long-time fans and newcomers alike, as the steamy trio give you everything you could ever want to know about Singapore in one big smashing revue to end off the year!

Dim Sum Dollies Present The History of Singapore – Sixty Sexy Years plays from 12th to 21st December 2024 at the Capitol Theatre. Tickets available from SISTIC
