Starting this April, lunch hour at Woodlands Hospital will sound a little different. Instead of the usual midday bustle, visitors and staff may find themselves pausing to the sound of live music as a new monthly concert series brings uplifting performances into the heart of the healthcare campus.
Musical Rendezvous @ Woodlands Hospital, produced by Sing’theatre in collaboration with Woodlands Hospital, will launch on 10 April 2026, turning the hospital’s B1 Event Plaza into a welcoming gathering space for music, reflection and community connection. The concerts will take place every second Friday of the month from 12.30pm to 1.30pm, and are free and open to the public.
Set within the everyday environment of a hospital, the initiative is designed to create simple yet meaningful moments, where music offers a shared pause in the middle of busy or challenging days.
For many patients and healthcare workers, hospital life can be intense, emotional and often exhausting. Musical Rendezvous aims to introduce a moment of lightness into that environment, using live performance to create an atmosphere of comfort and connection.
Audiences can expect an uplifting mix of familiar tunes, musical theatre favourites and lively performances that are accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages. “At Sing’theatre, we believe music belongs everywhere, not just on a stage,” says Nathalie Ribette, Executive and Artistic Director of Sing’theatre.
“Sometimes it’s not about big words or big gestures. I’ve seen how a simple song can change the feeling in a room. In a hospital, where days can be long and heavy, music brings a bit of comfort, a memory, sometimes even a smile. If a song can ease someone’s day, even for a few minutes, then it truly matters.”
Musical Rendezvous @ Woodlands Hospital is part of Sing’theatre’s “365 Hours of Music” initiative, an outreach programme that brings live music into public spaces, particularly hospitals and healthcare institutions, throughout the year.
The programme delivers an average of one hour of music every day across Singapore, creating performances not just in concert spaces but in wards, hospital lobbies and community areas.
Some of its initiatives include:
- MusicFest @ Singapore General Hospital, a large-scale one-day music festival held within the hospital campus
- Once Upon a Song @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital, a monthly lobby concert series
- Melody @ the Wards, where performers bring music directly into patient wards across seven public hospitals
- Sing Me a Story, a musical storytelling programme for children at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and National University Hospital
- The Sampaguitas, a choir programme for foreign domestic workers
Through these programmes, Sing’theatre continues its mission of making the performing arts accessible to people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience live performances.
With Musical Rendezvous, the goal is simple: create a welcoming space where music, care and community intersect. For hospital staff taking a break, families visiting loved ones, or members of the public passing through, the lunchtime concerts offer a chance to slow down, even if just for a song or two.
In a place where emotions often run high, a familiar melody can provide something surprisingly powerful: a moment of warmth, connection and shared humanity.
Musical Rendezvous @ Woodlands Hospital takes place at Woodlands Hospital, Tower D Basement 1 – Event Plaza, from 10th April 2026 (and every 2nd Friday of the month), 12.30pm – 1.30pm. Admission is free.
