Music: Ding Yi Music Company Appoints Tay Zhi Wen as New General Manager

Ding Yi Music Company has appointed Tay Zhi Wen as its new General Manager, effective 1 March 2026. Her appointment marks a new chapter in the company’s continued artistic and organisational development. As General Manager, Zhi Wen will work closely with the Board, Artistic Leadership, musicians and staff to advance the ensemble’s artistic vision while strengthening the organisational capabilities to support its evolving practice.

Zhi Wen’s appointment reflects both deep institutional understanding and cross-sector experience. She has built nearly a decade of experience across the arts, education, and public policy. She previously served as an MOE educator, an arts programmer at the Esplanade, and most recently an arts policymaker at the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.

“Ding Yi has always been driven by artistic curiosity — constantly exploring new ways for Chinese chamber music to be created and experienced,” said Mr Lau Kam Yuen, Chairman of Ding Yi’s Board of Directors. “Zhi Wen’s appointment reflects our commitment to sustaining this spirit while strengthening the organisation for its next phase of growth.”

Zhi Wen’s relationship with Ding Yi predates her current appointment. In the company’s early years, she performed as a guest erhu musician, making her return as General Manager a meaningful full- circle moment.

“Coming to Ding Yi Music Company in this new capacity is deeply meaningful to me,” said Zhi Wen. “Ding Yi plays an important role in shaping how Chinese chamber music shapes Singapore cultural landscape. Having witnessed the company’s journey from its early years, I look forward to working alongside its musicians and team to deepen that impact.”

Ding Yi Music Company continues to expand its artistic reach through new works, collaborations, and platforms that challenge and reimagine the possibilities of Chinese chamber music today.
