World Gourmet Summit 2017
The World Gourmet Summit (WGS) returns for its 21st edition, and this year revolves around the theme titled United Nations Gastronomic Assembly (UNGA), uniting the great chefs of the world from 16 countries over four weeks! WGS is organised by A La Carte Productions, a division of Peter Knipp Holdings, a company dedicated to becoming a one-stop solution centre for all F&B and hospitality needs, from marketing to events organising.
WGS 2017 aims to highlight international culinary talent and mastery, uniting the world through food and celebrating the people behind the evolution of culinary excellence as we know it today. This year’s programme features an exquisite line up of gourmet affairs, masterclasses, events and exclusive WGS menus at various award-winning dining establishments.
Some of the illustrious chefs who’ll be coming to Singapore for WGS 2017 include Jarno Eggen (The Netherlands) of two-Michelin-starred De Groene Lantaarn, four-time World Barbeque champion Ueli Bernold (Switzerland); Dharshan Munidasa, who put his native Sri Lanka on the culinary world map with two restaurants in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list; dessert sensation Kiriko Nakamura (Japan) of one-Michelin star Tirpse and even celebrity chef Chef Noom from Thailand, famous for his successful stint on the Thai version of Iron Chef.
WGS 2017 has a flurry of activities to look forward to, but here’s some of the highlights we’re interested in…
17th Awards of Excellence – 27 March
Widely regarded as one of the most respected accolades in Singapore and around the region, the awards will honour 36 outstanding recipients and its nominees of the Food and Beverage (F&B) and Hospitality industries.
Canadian Flavours featuring Quentin Glabus – 28 March 2017
Chef Quentin Glabus represents Canadian embassies around the world, serving up the best of Canada. Having designed and produced many signature dishes at representational functions, it is only fitting that he was the supervising head Canadian chef at the Canadian Olympic House in Rio de Janeiro during the Olympics last year. In this event, he will be whipping up new culinary creations using Canadian products for a truly Canadian gastronomic experience.
Mucho Mexico Dinner featuring Daniel Ovadía at El Mero Mero – 30 March 2017
Chef Daniel Ovadía is known for his innovative style and is a rising culinary star icon in Mexico, having been elected by the Mexican government to represent the country in its bicentennial celebrations in 2010 and receiving the national award for “Best Mexican Restaurant” in the young restaurant entrepreneur category. For a chance to taste the best Mexico has to offer, come down to experience the creations of this young but talented chef.
4 Hands Epicurean Delights- 30 March 2017
4 Hands sees Mitch Lienhard (global winner of San Pellegrino Young Chef 2016 from San Francisco, USA) joining one of the world’s greatest chefs, Ryan Clift, presenting an exquisite dinner at award-winning restaurant Tippling Club for just one night.
Rougie Gourmet Delights @ Mandarin Oriental Singapore – 31 March 2017
Dutch culinary maestro of two-Michelin-starred De Groene Lantaarn Jarno Eggen will head down to Dolce Vita, Mandarin Oriental Singapore on 31 March to bring his distinctive creative and technical flair to Singapore in an exceptional 5-course dinner, crafted and harmoniously paired with Champagne Ruinart.
Uncover A Gourmet Atlas: #UNGA United Nations Gastronomic Assembly – 2 April 2017
Celebrating of this year’s theme of a United Nations, UNGA will showcase the best of food and beverage that represent the various cuisines featured at the World Gourmet Summit. With the ambassadors of the different embassies in attendance, this gourmet party will literally live up to the theme as it brings the world together with food.
National Kidney Foundation (NKF) “Better Lives” Charity Gala Dinner – 6 April 2017
This event will feature award winning chefs from the Singapore National Culinary Team (IKA 2016 Culinary Olympics Overall Champions) and the Singapore Junior Chefs Club (Champions of inaugural Alen Thong Golden Coffee Pot Young Chefs Challenge in Abu Dhabi), along with Chef Kirk Westaway from JAAN and Robert Stirrup, Swissôtel The Stamford’s Director of Culinary Operations. This dinner serves to support NKF in their on-going mission to provide care for kidney patients and raise public awareness of kidney disease prevention, while also celebrating NKF’s 48th anniversary.
The Royal Gourmet Staycation at Samardhi Villa & Tamarind Hill – 8 and 9 April 2017
With only 38 spaces available (two guests per room, 19 rooms only), this 2D1N royal staycation experience will have guests pampered with delicious cuisine fit for royalty by Resident Chef Wanthana Nikosaen. Talad Market Dinner – 8 April 2017
