If you’re in London this summer, amidst the plethora of summer concerts and warm weather, central London has its share of thrills and spills for the theatre lover as well!
Over at the Southbank in central London, the annual Udderbelly Festival and London Wonderground have joined forces to become one mega festival of affordable live entertainment – the Underbelly Festival!
Having just opened at the end of April, the Underbelly Festival (now in its 9th year) continues to be in good hands, having produced countless other festivals in the UK and internationally, from Edinburgh’s Christmas, to the Hong Kong Udderbelly Festival to Pride in London for Westminster City Council and the Society of London Theatre.
Taking cues from its predecessors, the Underbelly Festival continues to bring the very best live performances from mediums as varied as exhilarating live circus, side-splitting comedy and sultry, out of this world cabaret to the heart of London. We ourselves can vouch for this, having seen amazingly creative shows such as House of Burlesque 2.0 (which we reviewed here) and hilarious, on the nose improv work such as Austentatious. Most of the shows are short and affordable (under £20), keeping the Underbelly experience an affordable while wildly entertaining way to spend the long summer days.
This year’s festival is presented by the Hilton group, who’ve also come up with a fun activity to do while at the Underbelly Festival. They’ve set up a very creative photobooth with props and rooms resembling a hotel set-up. The twist? You get to take a bunch of photos that get spliced into a single video, making the final result almost three-dimensional.
With an incredible line up of shows, alongside international street food, plenty of drinks at one of London’s largest outdoor bars, the 2017 Underbelly Festival will create a true festival atmosphere on the banks of the Thames in the heart of the city. This summer, vanquish your ennui and eat, drink and be merry with a simple trip down to the Southbank for a raucous, jolly good time.
The Underbelly Festival runs till 30 September 2017 on the Southbank, between the London Eye and Southbank Centre. For tickets and more information, check out their website here
