Celebrate your 2018 Chinese New Year in style this year with Ding Yi and Singaporean jazz veteran and Sing! China finalist Joanna Dong this March!
Conducted by Ding Yi’s assistant conductor, Wong De Li, Dedric, the concert marks Joanna Dong’s first-ever collaboration with a Chinese instrumental music group on stage. Listen up as some of your favourite and most familiar Chinese New Year tunes get a twist as Ding Yi breathes new life into it with jazz elements. Consisting of a repertoire of evoking and reminiscent pieces, two of Ding Yi’s young musicians, Kenny Chan and Chee Jun Sian will take the spotlight as they perform their own rendition of Chinese classics specially written for Chinese chamber ensemble. Both will be supported on vocals by guest soprano He Cai Xia, while Ding Yi’s very own composer-in-residence, Phang Kok Jun and local composer Sim Boon Yew were also specially commissioned for this celebratory showcase.
For a truly unforgettable welcome to the 2018 Year of the Dog, head on down to the China Cultural Centre this March to arouse your aural senses and celebrate in full force with one of Singapore’s foremost Chinese Chamber Ensembles and one of our favourite local jazz vocalists around. 新年快乐!
