The main events of the Urban Design Festival may be over, but LOPELAB never seems to rest, continuing their mission to activate spaces and keep on placemaking with the Nomadic Art Caravan this weekend.
Commissioned for this year’s edition of the National Arts Council’s Arts In Your Neighbourhood, the Nomadic Art Caravan will set up shop in the heart of Ang Mo Kio on Saturday and Sunday evening (24th – 25th March) and welcomes residents of Ang Mo Kio and beyond to come join in the festivities, absolutely free of charge! For the entire weekend, LOPELAB will be providing a full menu of arts and culture appreciation, nostalgia and fun for all the family.

On the schedule is a colourful lineup of local indie artists set to bring life to the stage, with bands such as math-pop group Disco Hue, and indie lo-fi pop outfit Sobs, alongside other groups such as Mixtehping, Spacedays and Retrofocus to score your weekend soundtrack. Besides bands, visitors can expect some high energy dance performances from Legacy Dance Co. as they share their infectious passion for the art form and entertain audiences with their robust dance numbers.
Think you’ve got a talent for art but never had the chance to express yourself? Artefakts is here to provide artmaking workshops, as guests learn how to create beautiful paper marbling designs together at the art jamming workshops.
And for the little actors, Bound Theatre will be organising a Theatre for Kids workshop as they teach young ones how to unleash their inner star. And for the older ones? They can take a trip down memory lane as they take part in a sewing workshop by Fashion Makerspace and make their very own set of Five Stones. You can even play with your new toys and more at the Old School Games Booth, with games like kuti kuti, goli, and pick-up sticks available to learn and play, not to mention larger-than-life, 3m long carom boards, congkak trays and snakes and ladder board!
To sweeten the deal further, there’ll be plenty of free food options available throughout the festival. Salted egg fans rejoice – a plethora of salted egg delights await your palate, such as Golden Salted Egg Chicken from Char-Grill Bar, Salted Egg Yolk Seafood Pizza from Collin’s, Salted Egg Fries from Flavour Flings, and Salted Egg Bitterballen from I AM…
The Nomadic Art Caravan is all you need for a weekend of love, laughs and reviving that long lost kampung spirit. Celebrate culture and the arts with LOPELAB this weekend, make some new friends and explore the joys of Ang Mo Kio with all the family.
The Nomadic Art Caravan runs from 5PM-10PM on 24th and 25th March 2018 at the open carpark behind Ang Mo Kio Polyclinic. Admission is free. For more information, visit the Facebook Event Page here
