LONDON – The 1997 Edinburgh Fringe saw the premiere of Tall Stories’ first ever show, an adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s fairytales titled The Happy Prince and Other Stories.

Now, 21 years later, the company has grown to become an international success, with hugely popular family friendly productions such as The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom to their name. It seems only appropriate that the company will be returning to the fringe once more with not one but two Wilde adaptations – the world premiere of The Canterville Ghost and the Edinburgh premiere of Wilde Creatures. Both shows are directed and written by Tall Stories artistic directors Olivia Jacobs and Toby Mitchell, and feature the same cast of Matt Jopling, Tom Jude, Steve McCourt and Lauren Silver, and play in rep at Pleasance Courtyard between 1st – 26th August 2018.

Fresh from the Sydney Opera House and London’s West End (Vaudeville Theatre), Wilde Creatures is a play for everyone aged 5 to 105, and is based off the fairytales of Oscar Wilde. The cast takes on the role of storytelling musicians bringing these fairytales to life, utilising original live music and a generous dash of comedy. Expect to see characters ranging from a pompous mayor to a petulant princess, a love-sick student and of course, The Happy Prince himself, as the cast brings each and every one of them to life.

In The Canterville Ghost, Tall Stories takes a detour from their usually family friendly shows to offer a more mature show. Adapted from Oscar Wilde’s novella of the same name, the play follows the Otis family as they move into Canterville Hall. When they’re warned about the fearsome ghost that stalks its corridors, the thoroughly modern Otises don’t believe a word, heck, has anyone warned the Canterville Ghost about them? This show will feature comedy, magic, original music played live on stage and even ventriloquism as the cast brings Wilde’s ghostly tale to life.

With 21 years to their name and having produced countless shows for all ages, head on up to Edinburgh this August and make sure you spare some time to catch Tall Stories as they present these two exciting, Wilde tales at the Fringe.

Wilde Creatures plays on even numbered dates from 1st – 26th August at 2.50pm, while The Canterville Ghost will play on odd numbered dates at 2.45pm. Both play at Pleasance One, Pleasance Courtyard. Tickets for Wilde Creatures and The Canterville Ghost available online.
