This National Day holiday, come on down to the Esplanade Concert Hall to revel in the nation’s birthday in style with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s National Day Concert.
Conducted by Suchuan Symphony Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Darrell Ang, the concert will showcase of Singaporean songs from six homegrown composers, ranging from veteran pioneers Leong Yoon Pin and Phoon Yew Tien, to rising names Wang Chen Wei and Syafiqah ‘Adha Mohd Sallehin.
The lineup will of course, also include some unforgettable classics as well, ranging from Zubir Said’s Semoga Bahagia and S. Jesudassan’s Munnaeru Vaalibaa (both arranged by Phoon Yew Tien), and of course, the National Day staple, Dick Lee’s Home (arranged by Kelly Tang), which will be performed by the choirs of the Singapore Symphony family (the Singapore Symphony Chorus, Singapore Symphony Youth Choir, and Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir, led by choral director Eudenice Palaruan and choirmaster Wong Lai Foon)
The concert will also feature violinist Kam Ning is the soloist in Chen Zhangyi’s Vanda Concerto. Kam Ning has been lauded internationally for her work both as a soloist and chamber musician, “manifestly the best violinist of the competition” after emerging Second Prizewinner at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2001, and winning the Flemish Radio and Television Audience Prize in the same year.
Come home to the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, as they celebrate Singapore’s 53rd birthday in style, with songs played so well, you might just find yourself shedding a tear of patriotism as you emerge from the concert hall utterly moved by what you hear.
