Resorts World Sentosa and SAVOUR had a field day last year with the successful inaugural edition of The Great Food Festival (TGFF). This September, it’s back, bigger and better than ever as it gathers the best chefs and patissiers from Singapore and the region as they take over RWS for a gourmet extravaganza!

Says Mr Yim Choong Hing, Senior Vice President of Hospitality at RWS: “Carrying on the success of the inaugural The GREAT Food Festival last year, we are on full momentum to establish this year’s TGFF as the pinnacle of all food festivals and the ultimate annual pilgrimage for food lovers in Asia. It will be four days of celebration of the finest cuisine, premium wine and artisanal desserts in a gourmet haven sure to satisfy even the most insatiable of appetites. We welcome everyone to join us in this feast and celebration”.

As with last year, TGFF will be featuring four core experience pillars that come together to provide an exciting gastronomical experience. 2018 sees the return of the Star Chef Arena, where overseas celebrity chefs will gather in one place to join forces with local resident chefs to present their signature dishes and new creations. This year, over 30 dishes will be available to try from these top tier chefs, and fans of course can even meet these chefs in real life.

Chef Richard van Oostenbrugge

New to the Star Chef Arena this year is Dutch chef Richard van Oostenbrugge, who was responsible for the renowned two Michelin-starred Bord’Eau restaurant and is currently the chef and co-owner of the hot new Restaurant 212 in Amsterdam. Look out for this signature creations ‘Foie Gras Seaweed Broth Umeboshi’ and ‘Scallop with Black Truffle and Fermented Oxtail Jus’. Also, Chef Masayasu Yonemura of the resort’s latest restaurant, Teppan by Chef Yonemura, will also be making his TGFF debut this year, showcasing his skills amongst RWS favourites such as Cat Cora (Ocean), Scott Webster (Osia), Ian Kittichai (Tangerine), Benjamin Halat (CURATE) and more.

Joe Leong of Forest 森

For those with a sweet tooth, the Rollin’ Sweet Times segment of TGFF also makes a return, with a gathering of the world’s best and trendiest bakers and dessert chefs coming together for Asia’s largest consumer dessert and pastry showcase. In this year’s edition, Australian patissier Philip Khoury will be headlining with his masterclasses here in Singapore for the first time, perfect for guests looking to master the art of tarts. New aspects of this segment include the custom-built, first-in-Asia thematic gin bar Tanqueray Gin Garden, while visitors can look forward to the HAPPIPLAYGROUND, a fun zone with cute eco-friendly characters from Hong Kong they can take photos with and interact with. And of course, for the actual dessert itself, they can indulge in sweet treats from around the world such as the popular Australian N2 Gelato. RWS will also be introducing up and coming pastry star Joe Leong (son of celebrity chef Sam Leong) from Forest 森 and RWS Executive Pastry Chef Kenny Kong as they bring their signature desserts to the table.

Meanwhile, guests looking to revel in true gastronomic joy can return to the ‘Feast of Kings’, a medieval-style, themed banquet hosted by celebrity chefs. For those looking to get their wine fix, enter TGFF 2018’s all new ‘The Cellar’, where visitors are taken on a journey around the world through various wines, from France (Castel) to Chile (Concha Y Toro). Curated by RWS Wine Ambassador Jeannie Cho Lee, guests can also look forward to unique wine pairings with fine cuts of meats and cheese, and learn how to appreciate wine with masterclasses.

Says Mr Darren Chen, Executive Director of Savour Events: “The challenge for large-scale events like TGFF is not only in its execution, but also in its relentless requirement to keep innovating in order to satisfy the consumers’ unquenchable thirst for new trends and experiences. We are confident that our fans will be satisfied with the new concepts we have developed this year, in addition to bringing back the oldie-but-goodie concepts.”

With the sheer array of quality foods coming together under one roof from the world’s best chefs, TGFF is set to be one of the must attend culinary events of the year, with something for anyone and everyone as they step foot into RWS and learn exactly why it’s called the Great Food Festival.
