Preview: The Time Traveller’s Ball by Limelight Productions and ebp at The Buzz (London)
LONDON – The UK’s first ever purpose-built immersive theatre space launches this Christmas with a bang! Located at the iconic Mercato Metropolitano, one of South London’s best known market grounds, The Buzz is a fully flexible performing arts space that aims to inspired creativity and collaboration, acting not only as a performance venue but also a community hub for theatre-makers, local students, and the community alike.
For their launch, The Buzz will open with Limelight Productions’ The Time Travellers’ Ball, a brand new immersive theatrical experience telling a sprawling, epic love story that spans three decades. Audiences can expect to find themselves flying through time in a decadent evening of dance and drama as they fall in love with London through the ages, perfect for the festive season.
Written and directed by Richard Lewis, we begin almost a hundred years ago as a flapper in the roaring 1920s, before exploring the fabulous 1950s as a jive queen before finally grooving the night away into the disco 70s, each and every period the backdrop of young lovers Edward and Norma (assistants a certain Charlie Chaplin). Choreographed by Jacquie Storey, audiences will feel like they’re a part of the party, learning the dances of the decades as cocktails flow and the love story flourishes and grows as the years go by. Of course, everyone is strongly encouraged to dress to the nines, as glamorously as possible in a decade of your choice to enhance the experience further.
Says co-producer, Emma Brünjes: “We’re thrilled to welcome you all to The Time Travellers’ Ball, a show we’ve created specifically to open our new venue, The Buzz. Be prepared to laugh, cry and, of course, dance! We can’t wait to see you in your finery, to sup a cocktail or three and – importantly – to escape through time.”
The Time Travellers’ Ball runs at The Buzz, 42 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6DR from 28th November 2018 to 17th February 2019. Tickets available here
