Aimed in part to promote sustainability and to reduce waste, the annual Income Eco Run (IER) 2019 is now open for registration. Set to be held at the F1 Pit Building on 28th April 2019, Southeast Asia’s premier eco run is back with even more new initiatives to encourage participants to continue their journey towards zero waste. With the key message and aim to reduce the use of single-use plastic products at the event, IER 2019 will see the introduction of the Zero Waste 5km Run where all participants of the category will be Zero Waste Runners.
Unlike most races, Income is taking the bold step to eliminate the use of plastic-lined paper cups at hydration points for the Zero Waste 5km Run, and instead, each participant of this category will be given a specially produced foldable, reusable cup, handed out to every runner on the day of the race, which they can then stash in their pockets or clip to their running vests. This is a step up from 2018’s run, where Income used partially plastic-lined cups, leading to a reduction of overall waste produced at the race and an increase in recycling rate. With the new resuable cup, it is predictedthat close to 20,000 paper cups will be saved. The plastic lined running bibs will also be replaced with recyclable paper wristbands, while plastic packaging will also be removed from all running singlets, including finisher tees for all runners.
On Race Day itself, look out for the organisers incorporating solar energy, where t up to 60% of energy consumed at the start area and will be powered by Singapore’s leading clean energy provider, Sunseap, making IER 2019 the first mass participation event that makes use of solar energy during the event. These initiatives gives thus give Income the opportunity to encourage the community to adopt more environmentally sustainable habits.
Says Marcus Chew, Chief Marketing Officer of Income: “Our daily actions and activities directly impact the environment, and a little step forward goes a long way. We try to push the boundaries a little more at each edition of the Income Eco Run to challenge ourselves and the participants. We aim to introduce more environmentally-friendly measures within the race each year and to encourage each other to embrace the changes and to do more for our collective quest towards zero waste. As an insurance service provider, it is important for us to be future ready, and this is the spirit we hope to drive across with Income Eco Run as well – to lead healthier lives and collectively build a sustainable future.”
