Preview: Aliwal Arts Night Crawl 2019
The annual Aliwal Arts Night Crawl is back for its 7th edition this July. This time around, the multidisciplinary arts festival is set for a curated programme that fuses tradition and heritage with a contemporary edge. Ranging from storytelling tours, performances, immersive workshops and a night market, join artists in Aliwal Arts Centre and their partners and discover new interpretations of Kampong Glam’s past and present.
In this year’s edition, come on special tours of the area with RSCLS’ street art tour, D’tour, bringing participants to check out new works in the district. Or travel through time with master storyteller Kamini Ramachandran of MoonShadow Stories, as she and her fellow storytellers bring you on a sensory journey and tell the tales reimagined from folklore and history of Kampong Glam’s aristocrats, merchants and ethnic communities.
Expect plenty of multi-disciplinary performances incorporating modern technology into art, with events such as poetry reading together with participants from various countries through virtual reality, and join Teater Ekamatra, NADI Singapura, SGMUSO and more for various dance and music performances.
Exhibitions curated by RSCLS and 9 Lives Show will also be on display, showcasing the stories of Kampong Glam, from its residents to shop owners, and even its cats. Meanwhile, for those wishing to get a little more hands-on, come participate in workshops where you can express your creativity by creating unique masterpieces at art and music workshops held by RSCLS, 9 Lives Show and NADI Singapura.
Finally, come together for some retail therapy with a special edition of So Gelam Market, a pop-up market along Aliwal Street that will feature a mix of traditional and modern food, as well as merchandise. Promising entertainment, food and experiences galore from afternoon all the way into the night, don’t miss this year’s edition of Aliwal Arts Night Crawl as Kampong Glam comes alive with art, music and more once again.
