New shows and additional tickets released for 2021 Singapore International Festival of Arts

If you didn’t manage to snag any of the very limited tickets to the Singapore International Festival of Arts, don’t miss this second chance to grab them again, with additional tickets being released on 30th April, 12pm.

This increase in capacity is due to zoning no longer being a requirement for live performances to take place. However, as the safety of audiences, artists and staff are of utmost priority, all audience members must remain seated and masked throughout the live performance; and Trace Together-only Safe Entry will be implemented for all audience members across all performance venues. SIFA will not be implementing pre-event testing as the capacity for all performances will remain within 250 audience members.

These programmes include currently sold-out live performances such as the tribute concert A Song for Louis, The Year of No Return by The Necessary Stage, OIWA – The Ghost of Yotsuya by The Finger Players, The Rhythm of Us by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the Singapore Dance Theatre, and Three Sisters by Nine Years Theatre and SITI Company from New York.

Festival commission A Dream Under the Southern Bough: Existence by Toy Factory Productions Ltd, en route by Australian art collective one step at a time like this, as well as several shows under the Compassion: Chamber Music Series will also have additional tickets available for sale. Additional sessions for the two immersive online productions The Journey by Scott Silven and As Far As Isolation Goes by Tania El Khoury will also be released.

Due to popular demand, SIFA will also be adding an additional performance for The Commission at 6pm on 16th May 2021 by Singapore Repertory Theatre, Wild Rice and Pangdemonium; as well as an additional show for _T0701_ at 2pm on 29th May 2021 by Singapore collective Zeugma. These shows, as well as tickets to Demon States by The Observatory will also go on sale on Friday 30th April 2021 at 12pm.

Canadian artists Daily tous les jours, known for their deft blend of technology and placemaking to transform urban spaces, return to the festival in 2021 with Musical Swings. With each swing in motion triggering different notes, people of all ages are invited to make music together and unlock secret melodies when the movements of different swings are synchronised. Located at Dhoby Ghaut’s Cathay Green, the everyday swing becomes a site for collaboration, cooperation and connection with others.

Celebrity Chef Justin Quek presents From Mee to You, a culinary experience that combines the simple act of assembling a meal and the enjoyment of eating a familiar local dish. Each hand-delivered package will include condiments and ingredients for a meal for five. Participants can either follow a pre-recorded cooking tutorial or assemble Chef Justin’s specially created mee siam recipe together with the award-winning chef in an exclusive livestream session. For the latter, audiences can interact with Chef Justin during a question and answer segment.

The Artground, a charity that creates experiences catering to children from new-borns up to age nine, will be presenting Play+Ground which consists of two programmes. First, explore the work-in-progress showcase of The Anything of Everything, No Matter the Time by ASSITEJ Award for Artistic Excellence 2021 recipient Dalija Acin Thelander. Here, babies to three-year-olds can immerse and discover a new form of being-in-the-world in a dynamic, colourful landscape. Then, witness Closer Apart, a heart-warming tale between a father and a daughter as they live in a post-apocalyptic world where clean air is scarce and real food is hard to come by. This performance is presented by My SuperFuture Theatrical Productions and is recommended for children aged four to seven.

Enter the world of Neveleven at Gallery 2, a dance-film installation created in response to nature and climate change. This multi-artist collaboration features choreography by dancemaker Chan Sze Wei and contemporary Malay dance company P7:1SMA, with music from George Crumb’s 11 Echoes of Autumn performed by contemporary music group Ensemble Æquilibrium. Then, challenge your understanding of J-horror with Dr. Lim Beng Choo’s talk, OIWA and who else? – Looking beyond J-horror that takes audiences through the worlds and characters that inhabit this genre.

From 7pm on Fridays and Saturdays at the Festival House during SIFA 2021, tune in to Sunset Sessions, an easy-listening podcast series produced in collaboration with multimedia art programming consultancy, MAMA MAGNET. These podcasts invite listeners to reflect on the conversations between cultural practitioners about art at the intersection of climate, sustainability and compassion. Then, best friends and popular podcasters Kishan Singh and Joel Tan present Night Cap @ 9, as they take their raucous podcast T42 to the Festival. Join their chat every Sunday at 9pm as they share their opinions on the shows that they have caught for the week. Both of these podcasts will be made available on sifa.sg and Spotify after they are broadcasted at the Festival House.
