Open Call: Pathey Nimidam 2021 by Esplanade – Theatres on The Bay

Calling all budding playwrights – the Esplanade’s annual Pathey Nimidam festival returns from 27th to 29th August 2021, and they’re looking for participants. Comprising a series of new 10-minute Tamil plays, Pathey Nimidam will involve the participation of numerous Tamil and non-Tamil theatre practitioners, from directors, to playwrights, to actors.

This particular open call is looking for new playwrights and provide them with a platform to hone their skills. Scripts may be written in Tamil or otherwise (where they will be translated) and staged as a 10-minute play as part of Pathey Nimidam, presented in Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay’s Raga series. The playwright will be limited to not more than three cast members and a director to stage their play. All plays will need to keep strictly within the stipulated duration of 10 minutes. There will be a performance fee provided for each playwright whose script is selected for the festival.

Application Criteria

  1. Independent playwrights or theatre companies who have new works that have not been presented on any platform or stage before.
  2. Open to non-Tamil scripts or narratives.
  3. All submitted scripts must be kept within the time limit and the cast should not exceed a maximum of three members.
  4. Open to playwrights residing in Singapore only. All participants should be at least 18 years old.

Submissions for the open call are open till 16th May 2021, 2359hrs. Pathey Nimidam, runs from 27th to 29th August 2021, Fri–Sun at the Esplanade Theatre Studio.
