Music Is: Electrico release first new single in 13 years, and announce a new EP

One of Singapore’s best known rock bands has something for the fans – a brand new four-track EP set for release this year, kicking off with lead single Fire In The Sky, their first new release in 13 years.

Left of the Century is the trio’s first batch of fresh compositions since their 2008 studio album We Satellites. So named as it tips its hat at the last millennium and looks towards the future, Left of the Century proves lead singer-guitarist David Tan, bassist Desmond Goh and drummer William Lim, Jr remain top of the game.

The EP solidifies the band’s reputation, displaying the band’s knack for crafting a killer melody while sending notice of their forward-looking ambition.

Here is a band in mastery of its strengths, moving confidently from rock ’n’ roll to a foray into the cosmos, always accompanied by Dave’s charismatic vocals. The songs, instantly catchy and memorable, are ready for arenas, and for quiet introspection.

The quickfire epic that is ‘Fire In The Sky’ kicks off the EP, a declaration of love and promise to be there for someone special. Next, groove along to the laid-back stroll of ‘Easy Come Easy Go’, a philosophical guide for easy living. Then bare your heart with the romantic, pensive ‘The One’, before getting snarky-delicious with ‘Influenza’, a fun jab at the culture of social media.

Of the EP, Dave says: “It’s great that we got off our butts to do it. There is excitement, a kindling of the feelings we used to have.” He adds: “Our priorities have changed, and we are doing it without expectations. We want to go back to our roots, to see where we were, and are now.”

Desmond says the title captures the spirit of the times: “It feels right to us. The recording took a bit of time. Plus, this is our 25th anniversary as a band.” William concurs: “This EP feels quite different from our past albums, with a more complex and layered rock sound with a modern edge.”

In March this year, the band issued We Satellites and the band’s first two albums, So Much More Inside (2004) and Hip City (2006) for the first time on all digital streaming platforms. This latest EP comes two months after the release of another EP, B-Sides Live at the Power Station, which comprises live versions of songs from their first three albums.

Listen to Fire In The Sky on Spotify The second single, ‘Easy Come Easy Go’, is set for release on 25th June, while the entire EP, Left of the Century, will be released on 16th July. Follow Electrico on their socials here
