Preview: LA Comedy Live presents The Expat Comedy Show

LA Comedy Live presents The Expat Comedy Show — the first-ever LIVE comedy show this year to bring 4 expat comedians into one stage. Taking place on 7th September 2021, 8pm at the Esplanade Concert Hall, the line-up features Deepak Chandran (Indian); Orion Perez (Filipino); Liam McDonald (Canadian); and Artur Akhmetzyanov (Russian), as they poke fun at everything from living in an HDB, to fines, fines and more fines, their relationship with Singaporeans and of course, food.

Deepak Chandran’s rise in the world of stand-up comedy has been nothing short of spectacular, having quickly become a regular headliner across both South and Southeast Asia, as well as an established host at Comedy Masala Singapore. Deepak’s comedy is mostly observational, with a twist of politics, issues with middle class life and of course, his life as an IT engineer. Deepak has also appeared on LA Comedy Live’s three successful sold-out shows ‘Let’s Joget & Goreng Together’ with headliner Kumar early this year.

Dubbed as the ‘Master of Accents’, Orion Perez can mimic just about anyone from Malaysian to Chinese to Singaporean. “I specialize in joking about languages, accents, and ethnic or racial stereotypes,” he explains. “My aim is to show that people tend to subconsciously judge others based on the accent they use.” An award-winning comedian, he debuted his solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, United Kingdom in 2014. He was also the winner of the 2014 Magners Singapore International Festival New Act Competition, as well as LA Comedy Live’s “On Stage With Steve-O” Comedian Contest.

Canadian funnyman & Singapore’s most unique act with the perfect mix of stand-up & improv, Liam McDonald has performed live in Canada, USA and Singapore. Armed with his sharp wits and a very likeable persona on stage, he has been a crowd favorite in Singapore. Liam started his stage career in his native land of Toronto, Canada as a Music Theatre major and spent 2 years touring throughout the US & Canada fronting for a rock band. He also spent 10 years with an Improv troupe honing his experience in audience interaction.

Artur Akhmetzyanov was the winner of the 2018 Bangkok International Comedy Competition and Singapore’s only Russian comedian. He’s performed live in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and the Philippines. Artur has opened for international comedians like Neal Brennan, Brendon Burns, Ahmed Ahmed, Alistair Barrie, Dwayne Perkins & Jinx Yeo. He’s been a part of Magners International Comedy Festival, Singapore Comedy Fringe and StoryFest: International Storytelling Festival Singapore. Artur also recently appeared on ‘LA Comedy Live Presents Jinx Yeo’ in July.

The event only allows attendees who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Singapore by Tuesday, 7th September. Fully vaccinated individuals who have completed their full vaccination regime at least 14 days before the event. Only MOH-approved vaccines are accepted.

The Expat Comedy Show plays on 7th September 2021 at the Esplanade Concert Hall. Tickets available from SISTIC
