Music Is: Inaugural YOC International Youth Opera Festival 2022 launched by New Opera Singapore’s youth wing – ‘Youth Opera Comique’

Celebrating the inaugural International Youth Opera Festival is a 3-day event from 2-4 June 2022! Opening with a concert by New Opera Singapore’s ‘Youth Opera Comique (YOC)’, these singers aged 14 and above will introduce audiences to the wonderful world of Opera and art songs.

Alongside a Masterclass and vocal-related workshops held throughout the Festival, the culmination of the Festival features contestants and judges from around the world gathering at the Victoria Concert Hall on 4 June 2022, 7:30pm for the Competition Finals and prize-giving ceremony

These finalists were part of Youth Opera Comique’s International Vocal Competition held from 21st Nov 2021 to 7th March 2022, showcasing the talents of young singers aged 21 and below, from Singapore and many other parts of the world.

Utilizing current digital technologies, the team quickly received over 60 recorded performances from the Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore and have since narrowed down to just a few finalists for the evening. In the junior category, Liu Yu Xin, Ginger Karganilla, Raeanne Wong and Melissa Wei-En Hecker will be showcased, while in the senior category, look out for Natasha Michella Da Costa, Kris John Paul Gonzales, Lara Tan Rui Qi, Carmina Lourdes D. Atienza, Koh Yung Chien Corey and Yssela Erquiaga will be featured.

The finals will take place on 4th June 2022 at Victoria Concert Hall, while on 2nd and 3rd June, audience members can enjoys workshops and masterclasses by local performers such as Dwayne Lau’s “Owning The Stage”, Akiko Otao’s “Your Body is Your Instrument”, a vocal masterclass by international pianist/musicologist Raminta Lampsatis, and an introspective to a singer’s career by Jeong Ae Ree, Ruben Lai, Akiko Otao, Moira Loh and Keane Ong.
