Following a twisted, explosive production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in June, Pangdemonium is ready to wrap up their 2024 season this October, with one of their biggest and most hotly-anticipated shows to date – Broadway smash hit Dear Evan Hansen.
Making waves with both critics and audiences when it opened back in 2016, Dear Evan Hansen follows the story of Evan, a young man grappling with the burdens of stress, anxiety, and isolation in his daily life. Struggling with unrequited love for Zoe Murphy and feeling invisible in school, Evan’s world takes an unexpected turn after a chance encounter with a fellow outsider triggers a series of life-altering events, forever changing his trajectory and those around him.
Dear Evan Hansen swept the Tony Awards, winning Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score, the latter of which was composed by and had lyrics written by acclaimed songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, renowned for their musical contributions to blockbuster hits like La La Land and The Greatest Showman.
In Pangdemonium’s upcoming production, Tracie Pang helms as director, with newcomer Angelo Martinez stepping into the role of Evan. Martinez is joined by an ensemble of seasoned performers, including Filipino star Gian Magdangal as Larry Murphy, Rebekah Sangeetha Dorai as Heidi Hansen, Xander Pang as Connor Murphy, Zachary Pang as Jared Kleinman, Gaby Rae as Zoe Murphy, Mia Smith as Alana Beck and Ethel Yap as Cynthia Murphy, each bringing their own unique flair to the production.
With its its deeply moving storytelling and soul-stirring music, it’s really no surprise how the production has cemented its status as a cultural phenomenon and touched the hearts of millions globally. More than just a musical, this production offers a poignant examination of the challenges faced by today’s youth with empathy, as its themes of authenticity, acceptance, and the search for connection strike a chord with audiences. Don’t miss this chance to catch Dear Evan Hansen right here in Singapore by one of our best local theatre companies, only in October at the Victoria Theatre.
