In a city defined by speed and constant motion, Tanoto Art Foundation (TAF) is inviting audiences to pause, breathe, and reconnect with their bodies, their senses, and the act of looking itself. This January, the foundation unveils its first major exhibition, Rituals of Perception, opening on 21 January 2026 at New Bahru’s School Hall, in conjunction with Singapore Art Week.
Running till 1 March 2026, the exhibition marks a significant new chapter for TAF, known for its commitment to fostering artistic dialogue across Southeast Asia, South America, and broader global contexts. Rather than spectacle or scale, Rituals of Perception leans into something quieter and more intimate: artistic practices shaped by slowness, touch, repetition, and embodied awareness.
Curated by Xiaoyu Weng, TAF’s Artistic Director, the exhibition brings together works from the Tanoto Family Collection alongside loans and newly commissioned pieces. More than 20 international artists are featured, including Trisha Baga, Lotus L. Kang, Suki Seokyeong Kang, Tarik Kiswanson, Heidi Lau, Yin Xiuzhen, and Anicka Yi. Their practices span film, sculpture, installation, and mixed media, but are united by a shared sensitivity to time, gesture, and presence.
Set against the backdrop of digital acceleration and collective fatigue, Rituals of Perception feels timely. The exhibition proposes attentiveness as a form of resistance, where the act of making, and of perceiving, becomes a way to reclaim humanity in an increasingly dehumanised sense of time. Visitors can expect works that unfold gradually, reward sustained looking, and engage the body as much as the mind.
The setting itself reinforces this ethos. Housed in the School Hall at New Bahru, the exhibition offers a calm yet resonant environment for reflection amid the buzz of Art Week. For art lovers navigating packed fair schedules and opening-night calendars, Rituals of Perception promises something different: an invitation to slow down and reattune to the rhythms of the body and the subtleties of lived experience.
Rituals of Perception runs from 21st January to 1st March 2026 at New Bahru School Hall, 46 Kim Yam Road, #02-02, Singapore 239351. More information available here
