Visual Art: National Gallery Singapore and Singtel Group Renew Partnership for the Gallery’s Next Decade

The Singtel Group and National Gallery Singapore today announced the renewal of their partnership for another 10 years, reaffirming a shared commitment to enriching Singapore’s arts and cultural landscape. The Group has been a Founding Partner since the Gallery’s opening in 2015; its support has been instrumental in establishing the Gallery as one of Asia’s leading art institutions.

The partnership has shaped Singapore’s cultural calendar with 16 exhibitions that brought internationally acclaimed art from Southeast Asia and the rest of the world to the doorsteps of Singaporeans. These include the current show, Into the Modern: Impressionism from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, which is the region’s largest ever showing of French Impressionism with some 100 works by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and their contemporaries. Previous blockbuster exhibitions include the highly popular retrospective by Yayoi Kusama, the Japanese artist’s first major exhibition in Southeast Asia, which drew a record crowd of over 235,000 visitors and Tropical: Stories from Southeast Asia and Latin America which broke ground in comparing the shared histories and influences across the two regions. Collectively, the Singtel Special Exhibition Gallery has welcomed 1.5 million visitors in the past decade.

As part of this renewed partnership, Special Exhibition Galleries 1 and 2 on Level 3 of the City Hall Wing will continue to carry the Singtel name.

Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, Singtel Group CEO, said: “Our longstanding partnership with the National Gallery Singapore has been driven by a shared mission to make art more accessible to all. We are immensely glad that Singaporeans and visitors alike have had access to some of the world’s most exciting art offerings from our gallery in the past 10 years and we look forward to presenting more culturally enriching work in the next lap. We are pleased to continue our support for National Gallery Singapore as it cements itself as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions.”

Mr Eugene Tan, CEO and Director, National Gallery Singapore, says, “Singtel has been an integral partner in our mission to bring world-class art to Singapore and to strengthen the region’s place in global art history. Their renewed support reflects a shared belief in the power of the arts to bring people together, spark dialogue, and deepen our collective understanding of the world. We are honoured to continue this partnership into our second decade.”

The renewed partnership will continue to support National Gallery Singapore’s ability to present blockbuster exhibitions that will excite and inspire Singaporeans and visitors from across Southeast Asia and the world, while reinforcing Singtel’s long-term commitment to supporting arts and culture in Singapore.
