For many Singaporeans, dialect is more than just a language—it is the sound of family gatherings, childhood memories and conversations with grandparents. This July, moviegoers will have a rare opportunity to experience those emotions on the big screen as Dear You returns in its original Teochew language for a special month-long showcase across Singapore.
Following approval from the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Clover Films and Golden Village have announced the launch of the Teochew Cultural Movie Showcase, featuring 40 public screenings of the acclaimed Chinese box office hit in its original dialect. Running from 3 to 26 July 2026, the screenings will take place at GV VivoCity, GV Yishun, GV Bishan, GV Tampines and GV Jurong Point.
The showcase offers audiences the chance to experience Dear You as it was originally created—preserving the authenticity, warmth and emotional nuances of the Teochew language. Tickets for the public screenings go on sale from 3pm on 29 June via Golden Village’s website, mobile app and cinema box offices.
Beyond the public screenings, the initiative also extends into the community. Ten additional sessions will be organised in partnership with grassroots and community organisations, allowing more Singaporeans—particularly members of the Pioneer Generation—to reconnect with the language and cultural heritage that shaped their lives.
“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to IMDA and Minister Josephine Teo for their support and for making the landmark decision to allow more Dear You Teochew screenings in Singapore,” said Mr Lim Teck, Managing Director of Clover Films.
He added that the overwhelming audience response demonstrates the enduring connection many people still have with dialect languages and the stories they tell, describing the showcase as a meaningful step towards preserving and celebrating cultural heritage.
Directed and co-written by Lan Hongchun and starring Li Sitong and Wang Yantong, Dear You is a poignant intergenerational drama centred on family, sacrifice and the enduring legacy of qiaopi—the historical letters and remittances sent home by overseas Chinese migrants to their loved ones. The heartfelt story has resonated strongly with audiences in China, where it has grossed more than RMB1.8 billion, emerging as one of the country’s biggest surprise cinematic successes of 2026.
For Singapore audiences, the Teochew Cultural Movie Showcase offers more than a movie outing. It is an opportunity to hear a familiar dialect echo through the cinema, celebrate a shared cultural heritage and perhaps even spark conversations across generations long after the credits roll.
DEAR YOU 《给阿嬷的情书》is playing in Singapore cinemas such as Golden Village. Teochew screenings will take place from 3rd to 26th July 2026, with sales from 3pm, 29 June 2026 via Golden Village’s online platforms and all GV cinemas.
