Fine vendors and entertainment galore that’ll get your feet tapping as visitors eat and drink late into the night.
Love London’s infinite food markets and endless selection of eateries? The London Evening Standard has launched the inaugural London Food Month this June to commemorate just that! London Food Month is a month-long, city-wide experience that celebrates the capital’s diverse and of course, scrumptious food scene. With hundreds of events in every corner of the city, this all-encompassing new food festival will feature food from all walks of life and for every occasion, from fine dining to street food, to cafés and late-night eateries. Curated by renowned food writers and creative directors Grace Dent and Tom Parker Bowles, London Food Month has even gotten the support of Mayor Sadiq Khan behind it!
At the centre of the Evening Standard’s London Food Month will be the Night Market, a 10,000 capacity festival venue that will the capital’s favourite restaurants, food trucks and street food vendors from 7th to 18th June.
Taking place in the iconic Perks Field in Kensington, Night Market is inspired by the global street food scene, and will comprise up to 50 restaurants, food trucks, bars and live entertainment, including renowned DJs and even an outdoor cinema. Vendors range from high-end eateries such as Fortnum & Mason and Martin Morales’ Ceviche to street food superstars Smokestak, The Cheese Truck, Naughty Roti and burger mavericks Patty & Bun, offering visitors a microcosm of a cultural journey through the capital.
Night Market will also feature plenty of alcohol from London Food Month’s partners, including surprise pop-ups and themed bars from late night espresso martinis at the Ketel One Vodka Kitchen, cocktails on tap at the World Class Craft Bar,and Cobra Beer’s Cobra Taste Room. And the perfect companion to these fantastic drinks? DJ sets from London’s very best, including legendary DJ Norman Jay along with a host of other DJs including Jimmy K-Tel, Ruby Savage, DJ Shepdog and Mr Shiver.
Aimed as a family friendly event, Night Market will also feature the Westfield Open-Air Cinema, screening fun films including the multi-award winning La La Land and blockbusters like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story alongside live acoustic performances. For the kids, Disney Studio and Disney-Pixar Matinees will be held during the weekends. Tickets for the Open-Air Cinema are available to purchase separately from the Night Festival itself.
Apart from the Night Market, look out for the other exclusive events London Food Month will be playing host to, including classes and demonstrations with internationally-renowned chefs, such as Massimo Bottura, chef-owner of Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy, a guided tour of Borough Market by Michelin-starred chef Daniel Galmiche, as well as specially created set menus from various restaurants, with participants including Heston Blumenthal’s Dinner and celebrity favourite La Bodega Negra.
Apart from the eating, London Food Month is also all about charity work that seeks to reduce food waste, including seeing the launch of pioneering community kitchen Reffeterio Felix, founded by Massimo Bottura that will serve lunch to guests from underprivileged backgrounds using surplus ingredients from London waste charity The Felix Project.
With countless peripheral activities and a Night Market that promises to unite the very best of restaurants and food markets around the city, there’s no doubt that June will be an amazingly tasty month, and truly, we’ll be able to celebrate the capital’s incredibly diverse food culture in style.
