SIFA 2017 may be over, but one of our favourite events from this year’s lineup is making a return much sooner than you might think – Jeffrey Tan’s Open Homes!

Open Homes makes a spectacular return this September as part of the National Arts Councils Silver Arts, an arts festival for seniors that shows that art is for all, regardless of age. This edition of Open Homes will be done on a much smaller scale than what was seen at SIFA, but that certainly doesn’t make it any less of an amazing experience.

This time around, a total of three homes will be open to the public to attend a carefully curated 30-minute performance by well selected senior residents, some of which you may have caught at SIFA! With both heartbreak and humour, the comic and chaotic, just as Open Homes enchanted us completely at SIFA, so too will they deliver some truly resonant stories at Silver Arts. Here’s a quick breakdown of the three homes and their owners:

I am by Ajuntha Anwari

We love actress Sharda Harrison, but guess what? The rest of her family is pretty talented too! Open Homes will shine the spotlight on Sharda Harrison’s mother Ajuntha in I am, where the natural herbalist will share about selfhood and her practices derived from the Malay archipelago in a performance that combines ritual and stories. This home might be especially exciting to cat lovers, who will be delighted to find out that this home has three cats.

Facilitated by Sharda Harrison. I am will take place at Ajuntha’s (and Sharda’s) home in Joo Chiat on the following dates:

Thur, 14 Sept: 8pm
Fri, 15 Sept: 8pm
Sat, 16 Sept: 2pm & 4pm
Language: English

Performed in English (Limited to 20 audience members for each show)

Alice in Her Wonderland by Alice Cheah

Influenced by her father, this is a passion that continues on in her life even today, and audiences can look forward to this ever vibrant, ever lovely and forever young woman always armed with a bright smile on her face.

Facilitated by Jalyn Han. Alice In Her Wonderland will take place at Alice’s home in Bukit Panjang on the following dates:

Wed 20 Sept: 8pm

Also making a return from SIFA 2017 is bachelor Mohamad Mustain Bin Abdul Shukor, sharing his story of finding satisfaction in the domestic activities he busies himself with daily, keeping up his picture perfect home. From a skilful hand with the sewing machine to his horticultural interests, maintaining his collection of costume jewelry to caring for his two cats, Mustain promises a fun, yet completely relatable portrait of his life and family.

Facilitated by Saiful Amri. Bak Serumpun Serai Yang Banyak Gunaya (Like The Lemongrass With Its Many Uses) will take place at Mustain’s house in Clementi on the following dates:
