Preview: Nidaros Cathedral Men and Boys Choir (Nidarosdomens Guttekor) presented by Licha Stelaus Productions

This October, come witness the power of song and opera come alive when one of the oldest and most successful choirs from Europe comes down to the Esplanade for two nights only to present a selection of enchanting works from their incredibly wide repertoire!
The Nidaros Cathedral Men and Boys Choir hails from Norway, and represent a tradition of male choristers dating as far back as 900 years ago in the 11th Century. Back home in The Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim remains their main concert arena and you can still regularly find them participating at church services. The choir is also active outside the cathedral and represents Norway as cultural ambassadors at international events.
Luckily for us, there’s no need to travel all the way out to Norway to catch these boys in action. The 49-member choir will be debuting in Singapore at the Esplanade Concert Hall on 20th & 21st October 2017. The choir is led by Bjørn Moe, conductor and artistic director of Nidarosdomens Guttekor since 1973, and a former Nidarosdomens Guttekor choir boy himself.

One of the highlights of the night will undoubtedly be Giacomo Puccini’s classic Messa di Gloria, to be performed in its entirety for the first time in Singapore. Accompanying them will be the Singaporean chamber orchestra, re:SOUND, to perform the Puccini opera, and unique in that they are led not by a dominant artistic director or principal conductor, but by the musicians themselves. In addition, a different repertoire will be performed each night to showcase the choir’s range and versatility including Den Fyrste Song eg Høyra Fekk (First Song My Mother Sang to Me) and other Norwegian songs. For the first half of the night, the choir will also be accompanied by none other than Magne Draagen, Director of Music and organist of Nidaros Cathedral, as he will support the choir on  the Esplanade’s incomparable pipe organ.

Don’t miss your chance to catch this absolute gem of Norwegian culture on our very own shores in this therapeutic, powerful set of voices at the Esplanade, in one unforgettable concert.
