Don’t Cry For Me Singapore, Evita is here!

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s award-winning, iconic musical Evita rolls into Singapore February 2018! Directed by legendary Broadway director Hal Prince, the classic story of Evita is set in Buenos Aires from 1934 – 52, and follows the life of Eva Peron, wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron, charting her rise from her tragic beginnings through to the extraordinary wealth, power and status that won over the hearts of the Argentine people to become the most powerful woman in Latin America, heralded to almost saint-like status even after her death.

Evita shot to fame in 1978 when it premiered at the Prince Edward Theatre on the West End with unforgettable songs in musical theatre such as Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, On This Night of a Thousand Stars, Oh What A Circus, You Must Love Me, and Another Suitcase in Another Hall, and won over 20 major awards with its original West End and Broadway production. It became even more well known when it was adapted as an Academy Award-winning film in 1996, starring Madonna, Jonathan Pryce and Antonio Banderas in the lead roles.

The title role of Evita has been graced by some of musical theatre’s biggest stars, from Elaine Paige to Patti LuPone, and in this 2018 production (also the Asian premiere of Evita), will be played by the UK’s Emma Kingston, who was personally chosen by Tim Rice, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Hal Prince to play Eva Perón. She will be joined onstage by Robert Finlayson playing her husband, as well as South African musical star Jonathan Roxmouth playing Che Guevara.

Director Hal Prince has won a record 21 Tony Awards for his directorial work, with plenty of Broadway’s biggest musicals to his name, and reunites him with choreographer Larry Fuller as well as original set designer Timothy O’Brien. No doubt one of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s finest works, Evita is a musical treat that’s not to be missed when it hits Mastercard Theatres in February 2018,

Evita runs from 23rd February – 4th March 2018 at Mastercard Theatres. Tickets available from SISTIC
