Since its premiere in Minnesota in 1997, more than 90 million people around the world have experienced the sheer joy and theatrical mastery that is The Lion King. Winning 6 Tony Awards, including Best Musical in 1998, and more than 70 more major international theatre awards, The Lion King was directed by acclaimed director Julie Taymor and adapts the 1994 Disney animated film of the same name.
