The Singapore Symphony Orchestra presents an evening of orchestral jazz at the Esplanade Concert Hall this August! Conducted by Principal Guest Conductor Andrew Litton, prepare to get your body jivin’ and groovin’ along to a repertoire comprising Gershwin and Shostakovich. Here, you’ll be treated to some of the most soulful of blues, the glitziest of jazz and wry humour from two composers worlds apart, yet somehow, with their rhythms crossing into an unexpectedly moving harmony.
The programme line up comprises Shostakovich’s Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 1 and Suite for Variety Orchestra No. 1 before rounding off with excerpts from The Gershwin Songbook and his Concerto for Violin and Orchestra. Expect a rousing evening of music that will have the Esplanade Concert Hall come alive, as the SSO is led by acclaimed conductor Andrew Litton, whose credits include being Music Director of the New York City Ballet, Artistic Director of Minnesota Orchestra’s Sommerfest, Principal Guest Conductor of the Colorado Symphony, Conductor Laureate of Britain’s Bournemouth Symphony and Music Director Laureate of Norway’s Bergen Philharmonic.
SSO POPS: Jazz It Up with Gershwin! plays at the Esplanade Concert Hall on 17th August 2018. Tickets available here
