Hosted at the home of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra at Victoria Concert Hall, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) crosses the causeway to present a special one night only concert on September 1st!
Titled From Across The Causeway, the orchestra will be led by Japanese maestro Eiji Oue, who has conducted top orchestras from the New York Philharmonic to the Philadelphia Orchestra to the Munich Philharmonic. The concert will also star Spanish clarinetist Gonzalo Esteban, Principal Clarinet of the MPO and soloist of the evening as he features in the bittersweet lyricism and jazzy wit of Copland’s Clarinet Concerto. The concert will also feature Malaysian composer Vivian Chua’s Mercu Kegemilangan, specially commissioned to mark the MPO’s 20th anniversary season, and will end off with the defiant heroism of Beethoven’s Fifth.
The concert will also mark the first time the MPO returns to Singapore after over a decade of absence, having performed twice at the Victoria Concert Hall (1999 and 2001) and twice at The Esplanade (2003 and 2005). Now, with this fifth appearance, Singaporeans can look forward to witnessing music of world class calibre from our closest neighbours, as they celebrate their 20th anniversary and continue to show the world the depth, power and beauty of great music.
From Across The Causeway plays at the Victoria Concert Hall on 1st September 2018. Tickets available from SISTIC
